Okay, I was happy today to see that Stabler may be getting back with his wife. I didn't like the writers breaking up his family to begin with. It doesn't seem like any cop on TV is allowed to be married anymore. But I am confused. Tonight he said he wanted to come home, as if he left. A couple of weeks ago his kids blamed him for the break-up of their marriage. But I remember very distinctly Elliot coming to work and telling Olivia that Cathy left him, took the kids and went to her mother's. Elliot did not break up the marriage, his wife did. Did the writers forget this little detail? If anything, Christopher Meloni and the actress who plays his wife would remember and point this out to the writers. This just really bugs me.

I think the reason he was getting the blame is that when his wife left him, she said it was because of what he was doing - his career and how it impacted everything. That's probably the reason the wording has had him as the 'breakup' factor - he may not have made the move to do it, but it was because of what was going on with him that it happened ... if that makes sense?

Except for the fact that he said last night that he loves his job and loves his family and almost lost both and that he wanted to come home. Now we didn't see her answer but it doesn't look like he is going to give up his job to keep his family intact. The family interaction when they were together was nice and important.

That's because most cops in real life usually end up having bad marriages-there's a very high divorce rate among cops in real life.

I don't believe the writers have cops single or separated because cops can't make marriages work. I don't buy that. I think they separate them so they are open to have romantic relationships. They did it with Malone on "With a Trace" - got rid of the family altogether by moving them to a different city. I would like to see a cop in a happy marriage whether they focus on it on the show or not. The Captains seem to have happy marriages and they were in the lower ranks at one point.

I too thought it odd too. I would also like to see Munch and Tutuola have more presence as well. They really add to the show.

Law and Order SVU is my favorite Law and Order franchise. I like Maloney and Hargitay and the way they are so effective with their roles. I wasnt too happy with the marital and family break up of Elliot because it triggered a lot of emotional turmoil and affected Elliot's way of handling things and their cases though it showed how he was still able to do the best he can in his job while grappling into terms with the break up of his marriage and the children growing and not being able to spend time with them. I think the writers thought that even if it was the wife who left Elliot, his being a cop made his wife leave him but yes, it was a detail they didnt really pay attention to.

That is true. After his marriage break-up his anger increased and affected the way he handled cases and I guess it was a good storyline. But I like his family and want to see at least one TV cop have a happy marriage.

I agree with you about keeping the story straight. But it could still be Stabler's fault for the marriage breaking up, even if she did leave.

No the wife did leave him they didn't forget it's just that she left because of him and work. So the kids blame him for being the reason they split up.
