Is stretch marks a good thing or a bad thing?

I personally think that it really doesn't matter if you have stretch marks or not....but some people tend to think that it is absolutely appalling.
I have some very good friends who have stretch marks and some who dont. The ones who dont can be ignorant to my friends who do, but when you think about it....its just the way how our bodies are. You can get stretch marks without even getting pregnant, or for any other reason such as weight problems, or through scratching.
So what does everyone else think.....is it ok to have stretch marks or is it a down right bad thing.

People cause so much fuss over stupid things like stretch marks. Some people get stretch marks, some people get acne scars, some get cellulite, and so on and so forth. We all have physical flaws and personally I think these flaws help make us unique and add to our beauty because they are natural. Appearance is only part of a person, the inside is what matters the most. You could be the most "perfect" person on the outside and be a complete jerk on the inside. Or you could be human with all of your imperfections on the outside and have an outstanding personality. Which would you prefer? I go with the latter any day.

I have stretch marks on my lower belly 29 of them and though they are not atrocious or anything I personally don't like them. I have had men kiss them though. Men think that I have a nice belly and a bunch of people think that I should get a belly ring. I uh think not. I have other small striations on my shoulders and hips (strech marks) from going to the gym, then quitting, then going to the gym, then quitting. The bulking up at the gym is what caused those and though they are barely noticable they are there and I know they are there. However lasers don't work very well on dark skin too well so I will have to continue to live with them. It's not so bad. Your skin is like the road map of your life.

I guess everyone has that same opinion in regards to stretch marks are like a road map that just shows you where you've been in life, if only it wasn't so noticable. But what the heck....thanks for your response

I wouldn't want stretch marks and I'm hopeing that I don't get any with my pregnancy. I think that they are ugly and I don't want them on my body. I don't look down on anyone who has them though, its not like you decide to get them! My husband has some that he got during puberty when he grew too fast for his skin to accomodate, which is pretty common. He also just got about 6 on his stomach which is odd because he hasn't gained any weight or gotten a bigger stomach....we call them his "sympathy marks". :)

I have some stretch marks and really they don't bother me. I have some that I got because I developed in the chest region too quickly during puberty!
I think that the reason some people are so ashamed of them is because of society's whole stigma about the "perfect" body. The reality is everyone is different and beauty comes in more than just the "perfect package."

It is natural to get stretch marks and there is nothing wrong with having them. I have them from having my son many years ago. I personally wish I didn't have them...but you can't change the natural process of the body..so I think that anyone who thinks they are bad should get a life!

I know that I do not like the way that my strecth marks look on me but I don't have a problem with anyone who has them. I actually don't notice them on other people as much as I see them on myself. My strecth marks from having babies are big and bad. I was very small before getting pregnant and got huge with all of my children so I did get a lot of stretch marks. I have mentioned it to my doctor and he has told me of a few things that I could use to help but has also informed me that I see my own stretch marks as being worse than what they really are and I have to agree with him. I know with friends and others I don't notice them as being as bad as they think they are but with mine I find them to be far worse.

I hate my stretch marks. I got very sick with my twin pregnancy and gained over 40 lbs of water in less than 2 weeks. Then gained more water in the hospital. I was swollen beyond swollen. My whole body burned because my skin could stretch no further. After I delivered my boys I lost 100 lbs in a month while I was in the hospital. I have a ton of stretch marks and really only hubby and myself can see them. But it still doesn'r make me like them. But for the most part I can cover them with clothes. A bathing suit is another story. But if stretch marks were the worst of my concerns I would be a very lucky woman! :) In the big sceme of life, they mean very little.

I think it is not a bad thing to have a stretch mark. But it is better to have no strecth mark at all. That is why w e wanted to erase the marks. And it is very hard to get it. Actually, I also have strecth marks in my body due to my pregnancy. I want to remove it. I hope I can.

I think it's fine to have stretch marks, I mean what are going to do? No one has a perfect body...only those air brushed bodies in the magazines...and they're not even real. It's sad that people think they have to look like those fake photos that have been done over just so they can be beautiful. The real beauty is inside..we all know that. I just figure stretch marks are battle scars, battles that I've somehow or other won. If someone is bothered by them and judges me because I have them, then I sure don't need their so-called friendship.

I have stretch marks mostly on my stomach & legs cause I have gained too much weight latelly. I kinda hate the things, and once I do loose the weight I dont know if they will stick or go away. Its kinda gross.
I might have them other places. I dont know if they are bad or not. They just bad and I hate them terrible. Hello say NO to stretch marks :))

I think it all depends on why you have the strech marks as to if there good or bad. If they are a result of preganacy or a medical condition they are good a sign of your life experiences. im just not a big fan when they are just due to being over weight. i think if you are getting strech Marks from being over wieght your body is trying to tell you its time to do something about it.
