I would like to redecorate my living room this summer but not sure what colour to go for? So what colour is your living room? Do you just use paint on the walls or wallpaper?

The place I live in is rented, and when we first came back in February 2004 it was a horrid lilac coloured wallpaper. I got some tins of white paint and painted over it, the walls aren't that good, so we didn't want to take the wallpaper off in case the walls started to crumble and the plaster wasn't that good, my housemate is not practical so I painted over the wallpaper. I would have preferred red because that is my colour, it's my personality flowing but we couldn't agree and so we went for magnolia white, if I had my way those walls would be red but I had to go for the compromise.

Forgot to add, painting is much easier and more therapeutic, wallpapering for me is a nightmare, I went for the easier option and besides its only rented accommodation.

My living room is an off white right now. I want to paint it a khaki-ish color. Exactly what shade I want I have no idea. I haven't gotten that far.

My living room is currently painted a terracotta/orange colour which looks quite good with black furniture. I don't like wallpaper and haven't got it anywhere in the flat! I'm changing the living room later this year and going for a creamy colour for the long walls and a deep red for the end walls.

Chriss, My living room is my sanctuary and get away. It is a very dark, almost hunter green. There is a beautiful primary pink colored floral fringed border at the top. The border is especially beautiful because there is also a window seat that the border could not go into, so it spans across it. It is not easy to describe; but I really love the colors - in fact hunter green and pink were my marriage colors `Donna

As we are in appartment we don't have option to keep changing color according to our choice. What color we have in our living room or bed room, we like that color though. But it is nice if you have an option to change color in different room according to your choice. Our living room colour is offwhite.

Maybe if you asked the landlord would let you paint a couple of the rooms to your own tastes, perhaps give him a shade you'd choose so he can see you aren't going 'mad' and splashing on black of post box red all over .. a coat of paint would be quite cheap and maybe your landlord would even help pay for it if you did the work yourselves .. worth asking perhaps !

my living room is wallpapered with paint over it so my daughter can't rip it off the walls, lol! i never done it like that tho, the landlord did decorated it before i moved in! it looks quite nice actually and it's a good idea to put paint over it, obviously the same colour as the wallpaper tho so kids can't rip it! :o)

Well, I don't think that this will make for a handy tip for you in what to color your own living room, but I'm sitting in my living room right now as I type this, and the walls are pale green. No wallpaper. Mind you, this is a really old house, and my parents / family haven't redecorated basically ever, so I don't even know who painted these walls. We do repaint the outside of the house, but the only room in the house that's been painted, on the inside, that I know of, since I was born, is my own bedroom, and that was necessary, lol - I had a fire in my room, due to a faulty electrical wire, and my walls were literally blackened. That definitely called for some emergency painting, lol! ^_^

me - me in my livingroom
My livingroom is a light blue green. Here it is in the picture, the light blue by my head on the right. I love this color. It was pretty popular last season. I have some clothes close to this color as well. I like it because it's cool to the eyes and I love most shades of blue.

Hi, hope you are ok today! My lounge is Sandy Shores which is a nice soft yellow, I have cream curtains and cream leather sofas, yellow york stone fireplace and cherry laminated floor with pine doors etc. It's ok, well I like it anyway. The only none matching bit really is Newty-dogs chair which is blue with yellow checked lines. I find painint on the plaster is better and easier than wall paper, as then you can get bored and change the colour or patch up and little knocks or marks easily with a small tub of paint and a brush hidden in a cupboard. I hope you enjoy re-desinging you lounge.!

My living room is magnolia with dark plum coloured paint on the wall where the fireplace is situated. It wasn't my choice, it was the colour that was already there when we moved in last year. I have started to repaint and I have just finished doing the hall. I used to use wallpaper, but I am too old for that now, and it is so messy when it all has to be stripped down again. Good luck with the decorating.

Decor colours aren't my strong point, but I do like the choice I have at the moment .. Briefly, I have a plain mushroom coloured carpet (shades of mushroom from the whitish top of the mushroom to some of the darker under browns, but overall a pale carpet), my rugs are a very light beige with pale mustardy inserts, curtains are a light mauvey/pale lavender'ish (yellow and purples are opposite on a colour wheel so compliment each other very well) .. bookcases, table and chairs, side tables are all beech wood with mat silver metalwork, and my La-Z-Boy electric recliner is finished in 'linen' leather .. tub chair is plain calico with a choice of throws (depends on my mood) from a mustardy mongolian throw to an exact match for the curtains in mohair .. lampshades beaded with same colours as the curtains, walls a pale beige like the rugs .. Have to say I am very pleased with it .. it's nice and 'warm' and 'elegant' but still 'batchelor pad' enough for my 'hate frills and flounces' taste .. and oddly enough it's one of the cheapest 'room makeovers' I have ever done (other than the recliner, but I needed the electric 'rise' to get me standing up after sitting for a while!) ... Everyone who sees it says it's a 'calm' place to be and makes them feel comfortable ..

My living room as the rest of my house is white. I consider it a symbol of cleanliness, and it's also good in the summer to keep the house a little bit fresher

It took us over a year, to get to the stage where we could add colour to our living room but it has colour now and it has done since the begining of 2006. The reason it took so long is because I wanted to do it properly this time, not masking over any damage, like we have done in the past. I fixed up all the walls with watered down patching plaster and sanded until I was happy enough with the results to apply paint on them. Personally, I am not a big fan of wallpaper and I get really ratty when i'm hanging it, i'm best left to my own devices to get on with it. The colours we eventually applied to our walls were a deep 'Moroccan Red' a nice warm solid colour and a 'Caramel Cream' on the rest of the walls, to compliment the red and at the same time, give it added depth, space and light. So far, I haven't got bored of it yet, which has suprised me as I normally get fed up with room colours really quickly. I guess because we decorated properly this time round, rather than just a quick fix, more thought went into it and that is probably why i've been happy to keep the chosen colours.
