Consistent, Small Changes WILL make a difference!

I've been dieting for so long I just can't take it anymore! I grew tired of the crazy combinations, the major restrictions, the insanity of it all, so, I QUIT!
Now, I focus on making small changes that I find do-able long term. Some examples:
I used to drink lots of soda. I still have a soda now and then, but I drink more water these days. I drink a glass when I wake, before each meal, and before bed. It really makes a difference - I feel soooo much better!
I move more. I park farther from the entrance of stores, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and make time for a walk outside any time the weather is nice. When the weather is bad, I get my favorite music and hop on a piece of exercise equipment for a quick bit of cardio.
I am getting more sleep! I used to stay up too late, get up too early, and I was always turning to caffeine beverages or sugary foods for an energy boost. Now I get the rest I really need, and I'm much more alert all day.
I upgrade my food whenever I can. Now, I use whole wheat breads and tortillas....more fresh fruits, less fat and butter (but still a little), etc. I don't trust the sugar free stuff, so I don't use it. But, when I bake, I use whole wheat flour, I cut the sugar some, and I add things like milled flaxseed.
Instead of doing everything at once, I have taken one 'thing' and worked on it for a while. Once I've formed a good habit, I start on something else.
Over time, I have lost 50 pounds! Yay me! And...there's no diet to 'go off', so I am not worried about gaining it back!
I hope this helps others. These little lifestyle changes have added up to a big weight loss for me!

Congrats on your weight loss. I can understand how hard it is to lose weight, as my goal is to lose 30 pounds. In 2007, my goal is to do more cooking, make better food choices, more walking, drinking more water and try to reduce stress.

I wish you all the best - you can do it! After all the crazy things I've tried over the years, I'm convinced that the healthiest, and most sane way to do it is to make the little changes that you can live with forever. They really do add up!

Fantastic you must be soo proud of yourself.
I really like your attitude of making little changes, I'm beginning to think this is the way I should be trying to make changes. If you have any more ideas please pass them on!
I lost 2 stone a year and a half ago and then it gotstuck for 6 months which gave me the chance to learn how to obsess about everything I ate, in the end I had to give up as I was making myself poorly.
This afternoon I decided to start again, I know that as I haven't put any weight back on I am in a better position than last time.

The best thing about your "diet" is that it's not a diet at all. It's a change in the way you live and think about food. Once you get used to not eating so much refined flours and sugars, the processed junk food really doesn't taste good anymore. It's like finding the true taste of things, rather than the taste of all the unnecessary additives. Congrats!
