special in a sense as she is a special child.. with special needs. we were looking forward for my sister's baby girl but i had the shock of my life when she told me that she will be special -- she have Down's syndrome. i am familiar with that illness as i have been caring for special kids after college, and i have loved all these kids and they always have a special place in my heart.. but never had i thought that we would have one in the family. i know of the pain - both emotional, physical and financial wise - that special children bring. and they need a lot of time and love to be cared for. at first i cried.. cried because of the fact that we cant be there for her for the rest of her life to protect her from the public who may not understand and i hate to have her suffer the insults that ignorance brings. but most of all, i have my hats off my sister, because she has carried this with a strong heart. she would often say, "dont tell her that you feel sorry for her, because i know she will be well loved. "

god is great he has a special way of rewarding people.the attention that your niece would get is a result of what god has thought of gifting her.i know how difficult it is to handle them but none the less you should not forget to thank god may be he has other good things in store for you. in this world when you loose something you tend to gain double, thats the law of nature

My reaction would be to be sad at first ofcourse and hurt adn angry.. But then I would love this child just like a "normal" one. I am sure that caring for her will be haard and the parents will have some difficulties but like u I have worked with them and I see how much love they have in them and how much happiness, regardless on whats going on around them.
Good luck to you all!

Downs children are very loving and caring and give a lot back to people who help them so it will be a nice job for your sister to look after her. Also there are different extremes of downs and it might be that she isn't that serious and can live a nearly normal life.
Good luck to you all.

yeah, Down's children are really sweet. i have worked in an institution for special children and they are indeed angels. my sister and her husband as well as me are physical therapists and we are well-informed about how to handle these cases. thanks for this my friend. i hope my sister will be emotionally and spiritually strong enough to handle this. thanks!
