We do try new things when they are similar to what we already eat. Fortunately hubby and I eat so many different things it is normally not a gamble. If something does flop we have dogs that could partake of our mistake. Pigs would also do nicely. Take your time and do one thing at a time. That makes it much easier to not waste money and time.

I have to make up new recipes to be able to put them on my vegan recipe site. I usually try them out on my kids as they are very fussy about their food!
I find that as long as you keep tasting the dish as you go along then you will be able to season it up correctly and it won't be wasted.
Give it a try, the more you cook, the better your confidence will be for new things.

I dont cook much, but the few times i have tried i have got very positive responses from the people who have tried it. I dont know why, but i find it very difficult to refer cook books or recipes when i am cooking. I just feel that i might not be able to produce the final product that is intended, so what i do is just go with my heart and try out a few things out of the ordinary. And like said, upto now i have never had a bad comment on any of it. Just to make it even more special, i give it a cool name as well. And why not eh ? after all, its my own creation. one small problem though, I would have difficulty making the same dish again, hehe. So basically my food is normally once in a lifetime experience ;-) ...... literally. Cheers

I can understand that, I feel the same way. I do try new recipes (the ones that don't call for expensive products) quite frequently and as long as I follow the recipe, pay attention in the kitchen and dont get side tracked, they usually come out great. I made swedish meatballs from scratch a couple of weeks ago and they were a big hit at my house. Try something new, that you know your family likes, or try something small for yourself!!

Maybe you could just try one new recipe once a week and let the family know ahead of time so it's not unexpected and at least you'll find out how they like it one way or the other. At least they'll have some variety and will not be against trying new things. Good luck.

Don't be scared to try new recipes, or other new things. I love trying something new. As humans we tend to fear the unfamilliar, but to become familliar everything was new at one point. Jump in and try them. If they don't turn out you've learned, and if they do turn out you've learned.

I'm always trying new recipes or modifying old ones. It usually turns out good. My husband will eat pretty much anything I fix because it's all healthy. As long as it's got some ingredients and flavors that you like, it should be fine. It can be trial and error though but that's how you learn and develop favorite dishes.

I am also scared to try new recipes as I am used to eating just plain food. However, last week I was very daring and I decided to make different types of bread. The first one was a disaster and was more like a dangerous missile than a loaf of bread. After I discovered where I went wrong, I made a few more loaves and now my family cannot get enough of them now. Seeing as how the bread was a success I am now going to try my hand at something else. Give your recipes a try. It is the only way that you will find out whether or not anybody likes them, and if they are hungry enough they will eat them.

I know that I was once in your shoes before about being scared of trying new foods, as well as recipes. And the only advice I can give you from my experience with trying new things & being afraid to do so is.. Maybe try to start with something that is a little familiar. But at the same time it may not be something that you would ordinarily eat.
When trying new things you need to learn to work up to things slowly. To allow yourself time to do so. Instead of forcing things all at once. As that is when you become more turned off from trying 'new things.' At least this is what I have found personally..
The most important thing you can do when trying new recipes, as well as food.. Is to keep on trying quite honestly. Not meaning that you necessarily need to try something every day, but maybe once a week try to find a new recipe to cook. Maybe ask others what recipes they ended up liking & why that is that they have liked this recipe. If you or your family like a certain type of meat maybe try to start a discussion.. Of different recipes for that meat that others may like or have tried.. Or if you like pasta ask for different sauces.. Start off that way if you want.. It's a start you know?! . .
To be quite honest from my experience I think a lot of the time that.. The biggest problem for anyone is mind-over-matter when it comes to trying new things. In my opinion if you THINK it's going to be gross then it will be. Try to keep in mind when trying new things that if you don't like that type of food.. You can just immediately never consume it again or even just spit it out. The same with the people whom you may live with.
I know when I had first started trying new foods I knew if I didn't end up liking the recipe I had decided to try.. That means I don't have to eat it ever again.. But at least I can say to myself "at least I tried this type of food." It's nice to be able to at least be able to say that to yourself later on.
Maybe try to find out what type of meat or dish everyone likes.. And then go from there & look up new recipes that have that type of meat in them or rice or whatever it is that you all like. Don't be afraid.. Trust me after you've tried a few recipes that you & everyone else likes.. It helps to encourage you to want to try new things!
I have tried a variety of different recipes. Some have turned out, others haven't. For the most part I try to look up new recipes or get recipes that involve the meat I may like.. Or the type of dish that I like but just trying it a different way. I've had some terrible experiences with some recipes.. But for the most part a lot of the recipes I make end up turning out really well! And like I had stated above if I don't like the recipes.. I just don't ever try them ever again!
In conclusion.. I hope some of my advice has helped you in some way or another. I know how scary it can be to try new foods.. But all you can do is take it one step at a time.. And don't force yourself.. Try to start off with foods that you kind of know already.. I wish you all the best of luck!
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I love to try new recipes. They usually turn out fine, but my family may or may not like them. I usually try to stick with ingredients that I know my family will enjoy. That way, it greatly increases the chance that my family will like the finished product.
Here's a great recipe site that has reviews for each recipe. I find the reviews to be very helpful and they often offer tweaks to the recipes that make them even better.

I like to try new ones, and sometimes they do not turn out very well. The ones that don't turn out well come from a book, but the ones I get from people are usualy pretty good. So I would go with person to person recipies more for now if you are afraid.

I like to try new recipes too. I get tired of always cooking / eating the same things. My family doesn't care though. They'd be fine with the same few things all the time. When I try something new, I usually try to make only a small amount, so we can try it first. I also have to make sure that I have the right ingredients. When I don't, I end up making substitutions, and that's usually where things get screwed up. When I do make something that flops, I usually end up being the one to eat it, unless it's too disgusting, then it gets tossed. Usually they're ok, but I often get asked to not make it again.
