Im pretty sure most animals do it.
The reason is that the afterbirth is full of all the minerals the mom needs after the strain of giving birth.I saw a cow do it when i was young.

I thought i heard something about Tom Cruise considering doing this with the afterbirth of Sari. It sounded really disgusting to me and had never heard of such a thing.

Yes, I actually know someone personally who has done this. Apparently she fried it an a pan, omelette-style.
I can't say that I would ever do that, since that does sound really disgusting, but I won't beat on her about it. It is nutrient-rich, after all.

Never heard of anybody doing that and if I did I would feel like vomitting after. I wont do it because its justr plain disgusting. Its true though that hospitals usually sell these stuff to companies because they use it for cosmetics, creams, and other beauty or other beauty product.

Some animals indeed, do eat the placenta.
I am not sure if any human cultures do this. But often, placenta are collected and used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. NO joke. You could be washing your hair or face with this stuff everyday (which is why I buy Arbonne, guaranteed no animal by products of any kind)

Yes I have heard of this, but I have never tried it myself. I don't think I would, either. I seem to recall someone I knew once freezing hers for future consumption? Now I'm thinking maybe she was pulling my leg...
