Well I have watched in the news a while ago about this 14 year old girl that cannot stop hr hiccups, it's been going on continously for a month! wuhooo! So what do you do when you get hiccups... Drink water? Hold your breath? Ask someone to give you a scare? haha... Maybe you have some other techniques that I do not know...

Fill a teaspoon with sugar. Put it in your mouth and turn the spoonup side down on your tongue until the sugar dissolves. I have know idea why this works but so far it's worked everytime for me.

there is one technique my mom taught us. you inhale and exhale in a brown bag .place it on your mouth and nose and covering the bags opening.the other one is holding your breath for as long as you can to neutralize your breathing pattern.

I usually drink water. If this doesn't work I hold my breath. If that doesn't work I tell somebody to scare me or scream at me. Usually it works. I've also heard that on babies to put a red thread in his/her forehead will stop the hiccups.

This works for me everytime, however gross it might sound: I induce burping. :) I drink some soda or swallow some air, or chew some gum and then I force myself to burp. I don't go around burping all over the place though, which is impolite and rude. I try to burp quietly with mouth covered of course, and the hiccup episode fades away. I think it hiccuping has something to do with involuntary muscle contraction of the diaphragm, and when I burp, I'm flexing the diaphragm. So it's almost analogous to stretching a leg muscle when you have cramps. Works everytime for me, never failed.

At times drinking water does not help then just press my nose, if that does not stops hiccups then I start taking names of all the persons who might be remembering me that way my mind is diverted and hiccups stop at some name or other.

I have tried taking a heaping spoonful of sugar and they will be gone. The best cure I have found (for others) is to tell them something totally off the wall. The person that did it to me ask me if she had seen my boyfriend with some other girl! Anything to get your mind off the hiccups will work.It doesn't matter if it is swallowing sugar, drinking water,holding your breathe, or who the girl was! I have heard many stories about the girl. No matter which one is true, the poor thing has had one BAD case of hiccups!=o{

That must have been really bad. I will give you lot of suggestions of getting rid of them. Repeated swallowing works for mild cases. Do this by holding your breath and repeatedly swallowing as fast as you can, or by slowly drinking down a beverage with as many swallows as is possible. It’s important that you hold your breath for as many gulps as you can. Placing a napkin over a glass of water canl help moderate your speed. Plug your nose and ears then swallow 20 times as fast as possible. If you notice a friend has a case of hiccups, it is believed that your can ’scare’ them away. Sneak up on them and give ‘em a good jolt (Be careful though ). What? They don’t have hiccups? Do it anyway! Relax, sit still and breathe in deep, slow, rhythmic breaths expanding and contracting your lungs completely. Distract yourself. Sing a song, go over your 7 times tables (7 x 1= 7, 7 x 2= 14, etc) until the hiccups are gone, Exhale completely and hold your breath for as long as possible. Squawk like a chicken while flapping your arms and bobbing your head as if you were pecking at something. Bugawk! Laugh. Think of something funny, or do something funny - see above. Eat a tablespoon of peanut butter. Stand on your head and drink small gulps of water from a sports bottle. Exaggerate your hiccups by inhaling right as you hiccup - this will result in a long and loud “huuuaaagggghhh” that’ll either be funny or embarrassing depending on your environment, but after 2-4 of these the hiccups should be gone. Take a shot of lemon juice. Let a teaspoon of sugar dissolve under your tongue. Think of the ugliest person you’ve ever seen. Now picture them naked, rolling naked down a hill or riding a bike and slathered in A-1 steak sauce. Eat some pickles. Think the alphabet backwards as fast as you can. Close your eyes, relax, still your mind and concentrate on nothingness until they’re gone.

Wow hiccups continuously for a month would really be a pain. How can someone have hiccups for a month. It will be really hard to have hiccups all the time and what a relief it would be for her if her hiccups stopped. About me I normally drink water when I get hiccups and sometimes my friends scare me when I have hiccups.

Wow! A month of hiccups, without being able to put a stop to them, that would drive me completely insane! Poor girl. When I get them, I hold my breath for 10 seconds, it seems to work for me. Not always on the first attempt but after doing it a couple of times my hiccups have normally gone.

Really? Pity that 14 years old girls hope she can read your discussion and try to stop he hiccups. Usually for me i try to counter like try to force back the hiccups. We know the intervals between and whenever it going to occur, try force it back. As for me it really works. Maybe she could try it I also heard that in order to stop hiccups, you can drink plain water and it will eventually stop it. I never try this but this is what everyone have said. Hope this will help her.
