What does Voluntary Simplicity mean to you?

VS is about reducing, reusing and recycling. It's about getting rid of debts and clutter and uncomplicating your life and maybe accepting a reduced paycheck in exchange for more free time.
But, it's not about going without things or even indulgences. It's about being content with what you have.

I've never heard it called voluntary simplicity before, we call it Downsizing round here and we've been working at it for years, though we need to do more to get where we want to be sometime soon I think. I try hard to only buyt what we need, to make my own and to find creative, local, ethical solutions to things we want or need. Whatever you call it though, its a wonderful adventure.

I think that VS is the only way to live happily in our society. Today people tend to work and want too much. Our children see this and think it is what life is all about.
Why not just be happy with what you have and use your imagination more? I think this is how life is meant to be. If you are happy with what you have you cannot sit around kicking yourself for what you don't have!

I got a book once on simple living that covered this exact life style. I really enjoyed reading the book and getting new ideas.
I think Voulentary Simplicity means we dont need giant Tvs and tons of electronics and toys. We can be happy spending quality time with our friends and family. There is a simpler life we are slowly growing away from. I am not ready to give up lifes perks but I could deinately use a little simplifying. We would all be happier with less debt and clutter.
