If your friend has becoming a vegetarian because of spiritual
reasons then i feel that eating even an egg will be considered as Non-Veg
But if your friend is becoming a vegetarian because he doesnt wish to be non-veg then i think there is no wrong to consider egg as Veg..but i personally feel that anything that u eat by killing an animal is Non-veg,so i consider egg also as non-veg as breaking an egg means you are killing the life of a chicken even before it is born..

It sounds like a "mathematical-approach" of explanation but a good one I think, thank you for your share of opinion. Have a good day.

Vegetarians do eat eggs. However 'pure' vegetarians, also called vegans, do not.
However because the egg is an animal just waiting to be born I don't see much difference between it and meat.

Vegetarians eat eggs and dairy. Vegans don't eat any animal products including eggs, dairy, and sometimes honey.

there are different kinds of vegetarian diets:
1) vegan - does not eat anything that is from animals
2) lacto-vegetarian - eats dairy products
3) ovo-vegetarian - eats eggs
4) lacto-ovo vegetarian - eats dairy and egg products
5) pesco-vegetarian - eats fish and other seafood, and some sources say they also eat dairy and egg products
6) semi-vegetarian - eats poultry or bird meat
hope this helped :)
