Blatant cut & pasting on a huge scale - CHEAT CHEAT CHEAT

February 25, 2007 7:03pm CST
I've only been here a couple of weeks but I've already sussed out a complete and utter lying cheat who is cutting & pasting big time - hundreds of discussions per day. They've been here for 5 months and have over 3500 discussions to their name. This person's Mylot name is a colour and a flower - a romantic flower you'd give to a lady on Valentines Day (hopefully you know who I mean). According to their profile it's a 27 year old male from Indonesia who has an 18 year old daughter, was having children whilst Take That were big (!) who watches Al Murray but doesn't think he's funny (do they screen Al Murray Pub Landlord in Indonesia?), this person also has breasts that men regularly stare at whilst having a conversation not to mention that this person suffers from every ailment known to man. From reading their numerous posts they have problems with their eyes, head, legs, body, personality disorder, various psychiatric conditions, various gynacological disorders and has been suffering from migraines for over 30 years (at 27 years old that's some feat). Do this person think the average Mylot member is an idiot? Why don't the powers that be that run this site ban them? I'm confused - what on earth is going on here?

Have you reported this to mylot admin? I personally don't always remember whose discussion I responded to and I don't get on here too much since I join another forum also. I heard mylot admin never responds to their emails but at least you can tell them the ID. MyLot admin might also read this discussion and hopefully they will do something.

Ok I kind of thought it was this person you are talking about. A colour and a flower, so I got it right. I'm glad you reported him. I hope MyLot can do something about it.

Are you sure you got the number wrong? 3500 sounded right to me. Maybe myLot has deleted some of poor, sick, old/young his/her (whew!) postings. All kidding aside, yes people like this member are ruining this site, we need to all be reporting them.

I'm not sure which person you are talking about, but I am glad you reported him. I was visiting another site the other day and noticed some of the questions were exactly like the ones I have seen posted here. The only problem I have is I can't remember who posted the questions. I could do a search but I'm not even sure if it's against mylot rules.

Mylot wants us to report cheaters and spammers. They have so much to look through that it would be impossible to find all of them if not for the help of the members. I have found another one that is worse than any of these. They have a girl as an avatar but suspect it is a guy. Do a search for laugh a lot to see more from him/her. Copy the text and paste to the search box and you will see the point, oh on all most ALL of the discussions

Cutting & pasting other people's words from anywhere without obtaining their prior permission is actually a breach of copyright regardless of whether it's again Mylot rules or not. Cheers for your input.

Just keep reporting the cheaters and sooner or later, the powers that be will catch on and kick them out. I don't usually catch on to this kind of stuff because I only have time for the discussions that my friends have started button. If everyone reports the same person repeatedly, they can't help but notice. Good work!

The best advice I can give is report, report, and report again. It's really unfortunate that cheaters like this come in and try to mess things up for the rest of us...

I have a pretty good idea who you are talking about and have noticed the numerous posts by them especially in the "discussions with no responses" area, which he does seem to have a great many of. More then likely he is copying discussions either from in here or from some place like Yahoo Questions, both of which is really wrong. Hopefully though if enough people complain about him he will be removed. Give someone enough rope and sooner or later they do hang themselves with it. I think if Mylot put a flood control on new discussions (in other words you can only post one every so many minutes) it would help at least cut down on how much they try to spam the board. It makes it very difficult at times to find new discussions when one person has so many of their own in there.

Thanks Emeraldisle - I hope you're right - people like this spoil it for everyone and clutter up the site with nonsense. Good ideas about limiting the number of new discussions people can make however something tells me these people would find a way around it - oh well, I've reported him (and the other one) it's up to the Mylot admin team now!

I hadn't picked up this person's "interesting" life. :-) I don't think I could have contributed to a lot of their discussions, otherwise I would have sussed it out for myself. Thanks for the heads up. I am assuming you would have reported it by now.

If a discussion that helps people to get a good answer to their problems,,is their any peoblems with cut and paste.Example:If a discussion is on cause of a disease, what is wrong in finding a good answer and pasting it.Pasting the same discussions from other sites is totally wrong.I agree. The aim of the person making 50 discussion a day, with everything a cut and paste id also wrong.I will check the persons discussion too as you have told.

It is quite impossible because they got the discussion from another site. I have found several from the same site and all are medical problems. There is nothing wrong with pasting a answer if you give credit to the person/site that it came from with the link to direct them there. These people post as if it was something they experienced and wrote from their own words when it is not.
26 Feb 07
Well it's not entirely impossible this person has an 18 year old daughter but, if you read their other posts, this person is varying ages between 23 and 58. Their many discussions completely contradict each other - it's fairly obvious that this person is cutting & pasting other people's discussions (not replies) at random - some of them are rather bizarre! I took the time to read a few pages of them yesterda.

I have reported this person. Name begins with R and ends with 12. It is awful. Keep reporting his posts. I found a lot of them are plagerized from Real Life Forum. There are probably other places to where he steals discussions to use as his own. He opens 20-50 discussions a day. Please everyone report him.

Nice one - it's good to know there are others reporting him too - together Mylot should listen. Thanks also for your input.

Do not waste your time responding to this person, because when he is removed, your response points will also be removed. MyLot is responsive, just not always as quickly as you or I would like. I also have at least one friend on here who will also assist us. Perhaps we can get it done today. There is another one that I have just ignored that is similar. I love your picture of blue glass. *smile*

Thanks for your comments Gerty - and I'm glad you like my blue glass vases :-)

I just reported someone this morning who was copying and pasting from wikipedia. Why anyone would go to such detail about ice fishing is beyond and sure enough the whole post which was quite long was all from wikipedia. I don't understand how it can be so hard to type your own words! I like the copy and paste feature for posting links and stuff like that but some really do abuse it. I think once you've been busted by the mylot staff once for copying and pasting whole articles you should have that option restricted on your account.

I agree. If you are going to copy and paste more than a few pertinent lines from another source, use a link instead. And always reference where you got something from so others can find it. Can anyone tell me how to copy and paste a link to another discussion? I tried somewhere else and it didn't work.

It's just so unoriginal - as you say, how hard is it to write your own posts using your own words? However, I suppose as was previously suggested, if they're doing it as a 'job' then then can post an awful lot more discussions by simply cutting & pasting. It's just so tedious wading through them all to get to a proper discussion.

Hi Bongoheads - great name! I totally agree with you, I've been here about a month, and in that time I've seen so many posts that are blatently copies from newspaper articles or just plain silly things, like someone posting a question and then the comments "what do you think", or "tell me". It would be really nice to believe that everything you read on here, and every person was genuine, I try really hard to be, but alas I just don't think everyone is. I think they see the possibility of getting a few cents per post and basically post rubbish after rubbish just for the sake of it in the hope that they will be paid. I hope that someone in the powers that be does actually filter out these blatant abusers of the system. How annoying is to when you sit there reading some of the silly questions people post, when other people sit and thoughtfully give their responses. I've rated your discussion positive because I couldn't agree more with what you said. I think the only way is to avoid those posters that are abusing the system, don't even get involved in their comments and 'discussions'

Cheers - the name is from a song called 'Bongoheads' on a CD that I used to play when my daughter was about 3 and she'd get up and start dancing and shouting 'Bongoheads' around the house. It's one of our nicknames for her now :-) Thanks for your comments re: the cut & paste merchant - what an unoriginal waste of space he is.

I know exactly who you are talking about ... but you'll find that they aren't the only one doing the cut and paste thing. I have so far reported 4 users for doing it - apart from the fact I don't see why mylot should pay you for copying and pasting something ... it's just a waste of time! Apart from reporting there isn't much else you can do apart from ignoring them. The team at mylot do a great job and they can't be everywhere at once. I'm sure they get a hell of a lot of emails daily and i highly doubt there are many people working at mylot to sort through them all. Hopefully they'll do something about them shortly!

now that i've said that - i can't find the discussion that you were referring too under the "discussions i've responded too" section of your page. Unless i'm blind - good possibility - mylot have removed the discussion

Yes I saw that too by SEVERAL posters. Two threads on here have made me realize that it is not correct. Therefore I will be reporting anyone who does this with the (!) option. I think it is pretty sad because it does nothing for discussion and there are no questions in the posts just posts from news articles and what not. I agree with you, bongoheads there are some real cheaters on here. Have a nice day and a big (+) to you. Pablo
