My husband and I had a conversation about abortion, until that converstion I thought my views were cut and dried....now I'm not so sure. I was against abortion, for any reason, until he brought up the idea of pregnacy by rape, or incest...now....I have to rethink.

You have to consider the fact that children are put up for adoption but not all of those kids find loving homes. A lot of those children sit in foster homes or group homes for months or years until they are 18 not ever knowing a true family. Then once they hit 18 they are forced to go out on their own. Rape, incest and medical problems are all acceptable reasons for abortion in my opinion. I'm not talking about going out and using it as a form of birth control because that's silly and pointless. People are blind and really don't consider all the options and really think things through when abortion is brought up. Really, there are more things to think about besides preserving a 'life' that isn't truly a life until about 4 months.

We differ in our opinions... life to me begins at conception...not 4 months.

I believe a heartbeat means life. The heart is beating at a few weeks, NOT 16 weeks. by 16 weeks i was feeling my children moving. They are life LONG before that!

Well from a rape survivor.. here is my take. That child didnt ask to be concieved. It didnt do anything to deserve it. It didnt choose its creation. Alot of survivors i know were inpregnanted by their violation. And here is how they saw it. The child is their salvation. In a time when nothing is good. everything is evil, you cant trust anyone and anything, there is this becon of hope shining at you saying things will be allright, things will turn on out. Weather those woman decided to keep the child or give it up for adoption, the child became a reason to live, a reason to believe that there is good in this world, that there is hope, and light. Some woman cant face the situation they were in and as such cant face the idea of a baby, i believe that is why they abort. And of those women that i have met... All regret that choice.
As for incest... thats a different subject. You have to weigh the possiblities of defects, BUT every conception comes with the possibility of defects... Ive never been in conversation with anyone who has been in the situation, so i dont know, i really dont know.

I have yet to meet a survivor that aborted and regretted it. We know a whole different group of survivors. I myself don't regret a thing. I have absolutely nothing to regret.

It is up to the woman what she does with her body. If I was raped, there is no way on this earth that I could keep the child. It would be reliving the nightmare over and over and over again. The woman already has a life sentence by what happened to her. Why should she be made to look at the reminder? She is already going through hell. Medical reasons are valid for an abortion

Hello tecklebug......
This is always a very sensitive question.
In my view it absolutely has to be left to each indidivual women. No government or any man, should have any say whatever.

i am pro abortion though i dont think it should be used as 'birth control'. what i mean by this is exactly what your husband pointed out to you.. if a woman was raped and became pregnant from the rape yes i think she should be able to have an abortion, incest is another great example, or how about women who get pregnant and either they or the baby could die because of the pregnancy? these rare sitations i think are perfectly fine to have an abortion.. if a woman goes and gets pregnant and decides "ahh i dont want to have this kid ill just go get an abortion" well i dont think that should be allowed.. if the woman doesnt want the child fine, but she should give birth to it and then let a good family adopt the baby!

I do not think the government has the right to tell you what to do with your body. However I think there should be boundaries set. I do not think abortion should be allowed far into the pregnancy. The baby is alive and kicking... that to me is like a murder.
Everyone always says, "It's my body..my right." But your body is basically a protection for 'another' body. Becoming pregnant due to rape and incest is rough because you never asked for it to happen. It's suddenly a huge responsibility and puts a lot of mess into your life you did not ask for. But in the end a child is well worth it, and I think it takes those 9 months to see that. I don't agree with abortion just because of an inconvenience. IF the mother is having extreme emotional trauma over being pregnant from this rape, then maybe it's something to consider, but only during it's extreme early stages. That baby didn't ask to be conceived, so I do think that in most cases the child should be born. I would hope abortion becomes more of a rarity. The government shouldn't have power over an individuals right, but I would hope people would in their own hearts feel that abortion is really killing an innocent life.

I am 1000% pro life, no matter the cirumstance. Although a woman does not ask to be raped, a child did not ask to be conceived either. There are so many couples in this world looking to adopt, I just don't understand how someone could abort a child. Of course this is just my opinion, and I know of course not everyone feels the same way.

If there are sooo many peple looking to adopt, then they can go adopt one of the hundreds of thousands of orphans and foster children that are already in the system. A violated woman has absolutely no obligation to be degraded into being an incubator for an infertile woman.

I'm nottorn, I personally would not have one, but I support other women's right to have one. Abortion is a private affair between a woman and her doctor, and no religion or person or government has the right to decide for her. And definitely no man who isn't the father of the child has the right to decide whether a woman should have an abortion or not.

Tecklebugg: I am with you. Personally, I am against abortion. Nevertheless, I think it is up to the individual to decide. Mainly, dealing with the instances of rape or incest. That is a tough one and for someone to be forced to have a baby that was conceived during rape or an incest situation may be too much for a person to bare.

I am against abortion except in certain cases. As in a rape. The women was not responsible for getting pregnant. There was no decision left up to her. That was yanked out of her hands in the most horrible way. So is she supposed to be punished for the nine months that she would have to carry this child. Incest also as your husband said is another reason why. Abortion to me is not a cut and dry answer. There are situations that as much as I say no to abortion I also realize there are situations that is the best thing to do.

A baby is a baby, no matter how it was conceived. Are they any less loveable just because the pregnancy came about because of rape or incest? If the woman feels she cannot care for the baby for this reason, then she should give it to a good loving home, but I believe that once she sees her baby, she will love it no matter how she became pregnant. There is just something inside of women that makes them love their children.

Um, I'm a woman and I hate children. I hate al children and babies usually make me either physically ill or give me homicidal panic attacks. I never want children and if I ever got pregnant and was forced to carry it, I would probably stab it while it was still in me.

I know it would be hard to deal with having a child out of rape, but it's not the child's fault. I would give birth to the child and it would depend on my mental state if I kept him/her or put him/her up for adption. I am totally against abortion.

The only way I would abort is if the child or myself were in danger.

the only time abortion could even remotely be justified is if giving birth to that child would kill you. as for rapes and incest those babies can be put up for adoption there are lots of people out there that wish they had kids but can't have any of they're own
