I love to travel, however, in the 33 years of my life, I have never been on a cruise. I guess it's a cross between the fear of getting sick, being surround by nothing but water and getting enough of my friends together who wouldn't mind going...
I have some friends that have been on cruises and I hear nothing but great things about some of them and I've also heard some horror stories...
I hear they stop in different places where you can get off the ship and go shopping etc..I hear there are also tons of activities on the cruise as well...
If you have been on a cruise, how was your experience(s), and how did you go about finding the cruise that fit your needs, was it moreso how much it cost? or the places it visited?
If you never been on a cruise and considering it, How are you gathering information for your cruise?
Lastly, if anyone could recommend any great cruises sites online, where I can view them also...

I was lucky enough to attend a wedding on a ship "The Symphony" The cruise was very nice although the wedding a bit of a disaster. The bride and groom made all our arrangements for us, so not sure what to tell you there. The staff look after you very well with all sorts of entertainment. The food is also very nice. I would like to go on another cruise, just have to decide where to. Hope you do your cruise and have a great time!

Thank you. I want to go on one, I've been hearing mostly really nice things about cruises. I have heard horror stories like the sickness and me being one who is just scared to be surrounded by just water..lol...I love to hear the nice stories..

I have been to many dozens of cruises. I treat them more of a leisure trip than anything. Don't let the phobia of being surrounded by water grip you.
Just make sure you choose a reputable cruise line and that it is a big liner you are travelling on and all should be fine. Check around the papers for cruise offerings. You can approach tour agencies too - they tie up with cruise lines to sell the places (though they usually charge a higher fee than if you approach the cruise line yourself - since they are the middleman).
If you visit your local library or bookstore, they may keep stock of directories specifically for cruise lines. They are thick books of info about many cruise lines around the world so you can check them out. ;-)

Oh wow, thank you for the advice and information..Yes the surrounding a bunch of water kinda got me a little on edge. But, all my friend says the ships are HUGE...hehehe again thank you for your helpful advice and information..also thank you for responding

If you go on the "right" ship, yes, there are huge. It's just like one gigantic hotel that is moving on water. You will feel it moving when it starts to move towards a port i.e. when you are starting and ending your cruise journey. But other than that, you won't feel a thing.
If you haven't been on a cruise before, go ahead and try. I think you will like it enough for at least a few trips. ;-)

You sound very good with that, My supervisor just came back and said she enjoyed her trip, she was a little sick the first night. The thing is getting on deck and just being surrounded by water and nothing around, just incase..lol...Just like heights, I fear those too..lol

Disney Cruises do offer alot. Not only do you get a cruise, but you also get park admission and I think a day or two on the mainland included in the price if you choose that cruise. The main problem like mommy2jason922 said is the price. Don't quote me here since it's been a while since I've looked at them, but I'm thinking they are in the area of $600 a person or more depending on how much you want. But I hear that they are one of the best for kids.

I've been to cruises many times and each trip gave me nothing but unforgettable experiences. I was 18 when I first had the chance to cruise. My jaw dropped everywhere I went. I can't believe that our room actually looked like a five star hotel room. There's swimming pool, jacuzzi, casino, billiard room, huge restaurant and so on. The ship was moving so smoothly that you forget you're in the sea instead of dry land. I also get to see different creatures floating in the sea. You should try it yourself. Its really exciting. Forget about the horror stories you heard. Make sure you book on a reputable cruise which I'm sure many members here had already told you. Good luck and happy cruising.

Thank you for the nice visuals...I know I shouldn't listen to others, but I guess actually getting on the ship and being surrounded by water is my downfall..People have said it's not that bad...I been looking around all morning...
Thank you for your advice and sharing your experiences...

I would love to go on a cruise but I know how you feel about being ill as yuo seem to see alot on the news of cruise ships being full of illnesses. A friend of mine went on one while we were at college and ended up having a relationship with one of the crew, at that time the bbc where on the ship filming a documentary so she spent most of her cruise trying to make sure her and her new friend were not caught on camera.

this is a good discussion. i have always wanted to go on a cruise myself but at the moment the budget doesn't look like it will allow me to go one. at least not at the very near future.
just like you, i have heard of horror stories especially when it comes to piracy. i wonder whether some of the stories are true or not.

Ten years ago we had the most brillient and exciting holiday ever. We flew to Luxor for a week in my favourite city in Egypt and then took a coach down the dessert road to Aswan. After a day in Aswan we cruised back down the river Nile back to Luxor. It was only for five days but was an amazing experience. We stopped at the temple sites all along the way seeing ancient culture in an uncrouded context but also past villages that had remained unchanged for thousands of years. It truely was a magical experience and something i would recomend to anyone.
blessed be

I've been on a cruise for my honeymoon. it was one of the most wonderful experiences i had. the ship and the crew was so friendly. they've got like a lot of activities for us to do inside. the ship had a swimming pool so we could swim if we want and at night we could go on a disco. the water wasn't even scary. just that one night there was a storm and i really felt so dizzy i really had to go to sleep. it is like a continuous swaying that you could not stop. but the next morning, the ocean was once again peaceful and we still had fun.

Cruise, that a word that has been crossing our lips for years but we just never got around to do it. But we are about to retire in the this next year and that is when we will go on our first cruise.
We will make sure we talk to plenty of people before we decide as I have heard that some do not like some cruises so it's important to get the right cruise. Not too much wild partying but not too much shuffle board either. :)

I have travelled approxomately 4 times between Sweden and Finland. It takes about 13 hrs but the journey is really good. Initially I was very scared of motion sickness and sea sickness, but I didnt have those symptoms at all. In winter I used to watch from the windows, the cruise move ahead in special routes while the sorrounding sea was frozen. Thats a locely experience. Summer trip was the best. I used to out to the top level and enjoy the ride with other passengers. Especially while coming back from Stockholm, there are many small islands on the way and waving back to the people on these islands was really fun. I am looking forward to try these cruise trips to Estonia, Germany, Russia and a few more.

I LOVE cruises! I have only been on one and it was for 6 hours from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas. It was breath taking and so much fun. I had a blast on the cruise ship, so much to do and see. The water is beaustiful with the differents shades of blue depending on the depth. I love the water and fishing and now cruises. I plan to go on the Alaska cruise within the next 10 years.

I have not been on one but I have actively been looking at one. Here are some conclusions I have come to....
1) You need to go with another person or the cost doubles. The reason is that every room has 2 beds and both beds must be occupied on the cruise. If you want the room to yourself, then you have to pay full price for the other person's bed.
2) Cruise fares greatly differ depending on numerous events. The main one being the time of the year you go. Many cruises have specials during the winter and for example, right now you can do a 4 day bahama cruise for around $300 a person. That includes room and all meals. However, that generally does not include any port fees, meaning you pay extra to leave the boat if you want to when it docks somewhere. It's optional if you want to leave though.
3) All food is included. That makes it nice so you don't have to worry about buying meals while on the boat.
4) Most activities are free. There is pleanty to do on a cruise ship that suits peoples needs of all ages and interests.
5) You have to buy a plane ticket and figure out how to get to the port. Sometimes you can buy that through the cruise line but I'll tell you the plane tickets generally cost more that way.
If you are highly considering a cruise then look at the cruise websites. The main ones are Carnival, Princess, and Royal Caribean. When looking at a cruise pick out where you want to go, then look at each ship. Every ship offers different items on it. Then look at prices and see which suits your needs and wants more. Good luck.

First of all I love to travel as well and have been on several cruises. My first cruise was on the Carnival line and the vacation started off nice until the sea got choppy and I became nauseas and didn't enjoy the rest of that night but once I recovered the rest of the trip was wonderful. All other cruises I have been on were a blast. I had so much fun on the boat during Day at Sea and when we would dock so that we could get off at one of the destinations. I plan cruises around the group of people that I am going with. I work with a wonderful travel agency who goes above and beyond our expectations. I also take into account what locations would have something for everyone involved. Then we book. Check out carnival cruise lines;royal carribean; and celebrity. Also Disney cruises are not just for the kids. They are wonderful for Adults as well. Good Luck and maybe talk with travel agency rep in your city so that they can work to get you the best deals.
