There are times when I feel so out of touch with God. It's a feeling of emptiness, fear, lethargy. At this time I cant even get the strength to pray or read the Bible. I realize the situation but find that I cant help myself. Have you ever felt like this? How do you cope?

we are on the same way.i`ve also experienced that kind of feeling that im out of touch with god.theres a time that i felt useless, hatred didnt leave my heart and im easily annoyed.i dont have the courage to pray and even read the bible. my reasons, its useless for me to pray or ask the guidance and blessings of our lord because im not living in a christian way.im not involved in any illegal activities but my work is not good in the eyes of god.i felt ashamed to pray and ask for his blessings or guidance.but god is really good, because he is still there.
he showed his guidance through my sister and her friends.they encouraged me to continue to pray, they told me that god is always there to listen not on my words but what my heart felt.
to make the story short i go back praying with the promise not to commit myself with a worldly acts.im ot saying that im living as a saint but now im living far different than before.now i always see the bright side of life even in the midst of obstacle.
dont lose hope, and go back to him.ask his blessings to cast away what you are feeling now.he see even the deepest part of our heart.
god will lead you to light.god bless!!!

We all need to realize that our higher powers know we can't make it through all days talking to them or reading their books. As long as we lead our lifes in the way he seems fit & he agrees we'll be around another day to then pray to him and/or read his books. One thing I used to do was I'd set my Bible & Big Book under my bed or on top of my shoes. Then when I grabbed to put on my shoes the books are there to be read. Thanks for another GREAt post.

Oh yes!I have experienced this so much time! But i didn't know how to explain it!I didn't know this was equivalent to being disconencted from God!Most of the times I feel like talking to God and feel like praying but find myself unable to do it.I just sit and ask God for forgiveness because I believ something must have gone wrong, rather I must have done something wrong that's why God is angry on me.

Most anyone who is a Christian has felt like this at some point. I've been going through it myself lately so I think I can help. Someone explained this to me a few years ago and their explanation helped me a lot so maybe it will help you. There are times that even though God never leaves us or forsakes us, He pulls back a bit to get us to reach out for Him. The Bible talks about seeking the Lord while He may be found in Isaiah 55. The way I see this timing is God's way of getting us to move to a deeper relationship with Him.
If we always feel connected to God, we base our relationship with Him on our feelings instead of our faith and God wants us to live by faith not feelings. Feelings are temporary and change frequently. We have to learn to trust that God's Word means what it says it does even when we don't feel like it.
If we don't base our faith on His Word and trust it more than our feelings, we will be easily swayed by other things that will distract and deceive us from God's ways. Isaiah 55 also says that God's ways are higher than ours and His thoughts are higher than ours.
He doesn't pull away from us to discipline or hurt us, He wants us to be dependent on Him and His Word and not on circumstances and if we are focused on Him, then we can overcome the circumstances that come our way.
It's not an easy thing to learn or go through but be aware that it is actually a compliment when God does this because He sees something more in you than you may see in yourself. He wants you to grow deeper with Him and the only way that can happen is if you are seeking Him even when you don't feel like it.
If you will discipline yourself to read the Bible even when you don't feel like it and pray even when you don't feel like it, it will be easier for you to hear from God and grow in areas that He wants you to mature in and times like these will be less and less.
I hope this helps.

I'm so glad I could help. Actually, I was just following the lead of the Holy Spirit. I feel like God gave me the gift of writing so that I can reach out to people. He gave me the gift of teaching so I can share what I've learned and hopefully encourage others. I don't take the credit for myself because I know that it is all God through me. I just do my best to follow His leading.

I know just how you feel, and I'm sorry you have to deal with ignorant and hurtful answers regarding your question. I've been feeling very much the same way lately, although I've credited it mostly to recent changes in our church atmosphere and a year of struggling with infertility - they've really knocked me for a loop in my relationship with God, although I know they shouldn't have. I also feel that lethargy - like I know things would be better if I spent more time in prayer or reading God's word, but somehow...I just can't. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me.
I do keep praying. Not as much as I know I should, but every time I think of it - prayers of thanks for all the wonderful things in my life, prayers of thanks for knowing He is always with me, even though I don't always feel His presence. I keep asking for His guidance, to know His will for my life, for the strength to get through this. And I know I will, because I've been here before and come out of it, in time. I hope that you will too, and soon. It's a scary place to be.

Yes,
We all have times when we feel away from God but know that He is never far from us. If we have genuinely trusted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we can know that our hope is not in our feeling but in His hands. see John 10:27-28
I cope by forcing myself to pray and read the Bible during down times because it's "for His glory and my good."
Remember: the goal of all true Christians is to "know Him and to encourage others to know Him.

I am not believing in any religion, but hundred percent believing in God. Whenever, I face any hindrance or disturbance, I use to utter 'Shiv, shiv' (hindu prayer) ceaselelly for some time and the things become normal to my mind and I happen to see the things by standing in others shoe. When I first understood that 'I' is merely a feeling in this body and 'I' have no control over anything on earth, includign my thoughts, I trained my lips and tongue to utter the word 'that belong to the name of God', the sweetest word I use when I am happy or paining.

bluegem you know that god is all around us?
he is there wherever we touch whatever we do and in all things that exists in the universe
he does not only live in the bible and if you close the holy book or don't read in it for a while he is gone
this is all the magic..god is where ever we go
so whenever you feel as you described right now you have to know that your are not lonly that the fear is only a temporary situation and that everything is going to be alright cause god is with you

I'm having big issues with God right now. My main problem is reminding myself that god exists. I've allowed science to take over my sprituality and ideas on whether god exists or not because of evolution. I blame that on college! To bring myself back to god I just remember the times I truly knew he was there in my life helping me and guiding me. Also, i'm having trouble with the masculinity that dominates my religion so I've been trying to learn more about female characters that represent who I am as a female. Like Mary Magdalene, her character is changing dramatically and she was such an important character to Jesus.

May I call you bella? Well I can only imagine waht it must feel like struggling with light and darkness. The devil wants you to believe a lie. But the truth is that if God did not exist then you wouldnt have this inner struggle right now. Please read your Bible and you will find inner peace as God reveals himself to you through his words. Please dont give up girl. I can see you are a good person. God will be your guide!!!

Hi, blugem: Have you had a recent physical checkup? You sound like you might have some fatigue problems. Do you work too many hours? Have you had recent bad news of some kind? When I feel a little apart from the Lord, I read the Foot Prints poem about the Lord's footprints being beside mine in the sand then after awhile I notice that only one pair of footprints are in the sand. The Lord says that was when He was carrying me. This tells us the Lord is always with us whether we know it or not. You sound very exhausted. Do you have ongoing health problems?

Thanks for being so concerned. I do not have health problems but am maybe a little tired these days. However, I think I feel this way because I have not been praying and studying my Bible as much as I use to. However, you guys have done a really great job of cheering me up and so I can safely say I'm my old self again. Thank you so much ;-).

If you believe in the made in his own image and take some literal satanic meaning from that then you should never be apart from God..because you pretty much are..HOWEVER as far as Christianity goes I think if you go off of the hard to read fairy tale book , as edited by mainly Catholics who want to make things suit their "business" keeping out what they will then of course you should feel far from God...because his real magic is lost and commercialised...forget what you know and go with what you feel

Hello - I can completely relate with how you feel. There are certainly times when I feel disconnected with God...but one thing we all have to remember that it is, indeed, WE that are feeling distant from God and not He from us. There are times when scripture tells us that He will pull back a bit to let us learn some sort of lesson that has to be learned and to test us to help us strengthen our loyalties towards Him and our reliance upon Him. There is a GREAT book by Joyce Meyer that helped me greatly when I was dealing with depression and such, it is called Battlefield of the Mind - it is quite helpful and I think you might get a lot out of it. Also, don't forget your church fellowship. It is during our times of spiritual droubt that we need to draw upon our fellow Christians the most. Surround yourself with His truth and His true followers and read His Word consistantly on some sort of reading plan such as a chronological reading plan - look some up on line.
Hopefully that helps!

Let's talk about God for a minute. Ho is he? Well i believe that he is inside all of us, with us all the time and the problem with Him is that we can't accept that we live on this planet without a purpese. But let's think about that in another way. I live near a church.. and i see all the time poor people that come and pray and listen of what the priest has to say, they light up a candle and think about what they want more and they hope that someday they will have it. But what if an old poor beleiver let's say would win a great deal of money, what about then??? Would he come to the church, or even get near one to pray and listen to the priest? What about that?
