How do we Get to Live to an Old Age?

I ask this question, because of a recent report of the Worlds oldest woman dieing. A Salvadoran woman, who claimed to be 128 years old, died in her sleep recently. National birth records show she was born in 1878. Many who knew her, attributed her longevitiy to her favourite drink of beer with two raw eggs in it. She was a mid wife until age 100, and had 13 children. Photo of the woman, when alive, attached. So the big question is, how can we get to live that long? Is it diet? Or hard work?

I suppose that living longer is probably due to a genetic background as well as a way of life. Have you noticed how there are families whose members live longer than in other families? Living a healthy life may help, but doesn't necessarily entail that you'll become a centenarian. As a friend of mine put it once: "I intend to live forever. So far, so good." ;)

Mostly genetics are the key in someone that long lived. Our environment is a stressor and most of us do not have the capablity to withstand it for long. Diet is the killer too. Real food is not so full of nutrition anymore with the raping agricultural methods used with too many chemicals. I hope that your genetics are designed with the longevity gene activated.

Good genes are crucial I believe, as fortunately is the case with my family which I appear to have inherited. My grandmother lived until 91. She hardly had a sick day in her life, and she worked until she was 80. Her daughter, my aunty, is still going strong at 86 years, and she lives alone in a big house with an enormous garden which she manages herself. There are other ancestors too, in the late 1800's and early 1900's, who lived up to and beyond 80. This was unusual in those days. At the same time, it must be said that these people did not ever eat take away food, and most likely had very little food with added chemicals, etc

amazing! thanks for sharing this. i think among the secrets to living to a ripe old age is to smile --- a lot, to live simply, and to eat healthy foods.

I have read reports that suggest every new generation fo epopel can expect to live 10 years longer than the one before at the very least, and that with the rate of advance of medical technology and our ability to choose (though most of us don't) to have a perfectly balanced diet with all teh trace elements we need, then there should be no reason why most of us posting hee couldnt reach that sort of age. Course, we choose to do silly things like drink or smoke or slob about, but thats the individuals choice and mans many of us won't reach those ages.

First thing, it is great genes. Then good food, then probably hard work, or hard play. It is motivation, having a purpose in life. She was a midwife, she had a purpose. Good health habits--probably, but what is good for me is not necessarily good for you. Some of it is pure dumb luck, and staying out of traffic.

I think it is harder today today because of all the stuff we have been exposed to as a young child. In general we don't eat as well. We will eat at McDonalds or other fast food places every onow an then. They also say the longer you work the more active your brain. Sothis may have helped. I think overall today there are to many pollutants to give us that head start.

Great age, would we ever live that long, Diet, way of life and how we take care of ourselves may be a way to live longer, however I choose to believe it is a gift of God.

Wow, someone who was 128 years old? I have a link where it gives you tips on how to live to a 100. Maybe you may want to take a look at it. I am trying to follow the advice it gives me and want to apply them to my life starting now. If God wills, I would like to live to a 100. One of the things it suggests is we should have a balanced diet, exercise, count cholesterol, consume protein, watch your salt intake, drink enough water, keep fiber up, etc. the link is: www.thirdage.com/bortz/steps/

I think the best way to have a long life, is a life free of tensions. In todays life there are so many tensions, that an human being does nt average more than 70-80 years. Also a good diet will help a lot in having a long life. Plus surrounded by happiness

I think we should not live with burden to anybody. we have to save the money for our future . So we can live for long time. The habit of eating strengthy food made her to live 128 years. so for living long we have to do two things 1.we have to save maney for future use. We should not be a burden to anybody. 2. we should eat strengthy food.

I think there are alot of things which matter to live long which may be good diet, hard work, and the main thing is how you take your life if you are an optimist person you will tske everything in an positive manner which will always help you become a "happy go lucky person" which ultimately results in good health

i think genetics must play a large part, though occasionally,it seems luck of the draw. my mother's side of the family has many centenarians in it,and quite a few who have now passed who lived to that age. some of them smoke/drink,and do things that aren't supposed to be good for them, yet they're still going. bless 'em,however they're doing it :)

I think it's as mental as it is physical. We have to watch after our bodies, which means being careful of what we are putting in - lots of food in the stores today is toxic. Good food, rest, and exercise keep our bodies younger. Also, certain foods that put our bodies in an acidic state akin to a corpse, trigger our bodies to begin decomposing slowly - this is lots of the aging process. If we don't eat those foods, our bodies don't think there's anything they should be breaking down, so we don't age as quickly. Most importantly though is mental. If we continue learning, finding things to do, enjoying life and keep a constant state of curiosity, it tends to cause us to remain young and youthful and creates a longer life span. Stress and negative emotions also impact our health, and by learning to clear ourselves of that energy we keep our bodies healthier and cleaner.

A wonderfull achievement and well done for her. I think it is just the way we are born with such a lot of good insides that can last for a very long time. Some are born with strong bodies and some are born with weak bodies, depends where we are in the cue lol.

Wow. 128 years old. I don't think I wanted to live that long. Reaching 80 is enough for me. Looking at that picture of that woman make me feel kind of sad for her. She is all wrinkle and skinny. I don't why these days, when I saw old people I feel sorry for them. When I saw my mom wrinkly hand a part of me just die.

I think being happy and having a great attitude can go along way to help with genetics.
