My Daughter is Bald!!

Well today my daughter came home from school without her long locks. She looks so different, thank god she has a beautiful head..with nice ears or she would look pretty goofy. She is a remarkable young lady who did a courageous thing for a worthy cause. I am so proud of her I can hardly put it into words. She admits she don't like the attention, but she is an instant celebrity in our little town, she will be featured in the next local newspaper and even got interviewed.
The six kids that shaved their heads for cancer raised over 2000.00 dollars in less than a week. Thats quite an accomplishment in a place that only has about 4500 people. She was the first ever female in our area to ever shave her head.
My recent discussions on how to deal with my daughter has helped so much, we have been communicating better and life around here has been a little sweeter.

i love reading posts like this. in our world of today, there are still so many good people out there. imagine a young lady, whose looks matter, had the courage to shave her head for a good cause. my congratulations for her for doing a courageous deed. some might think this is an easy feat but i think it is extra ordinary. she should really be interviewed! you are so lucky to have a daughter like her.

I am lucky, I count my blessings everyday that both my kids are strong and healthy...and anytime i have good reason to brag I like to..lol Her appearance is a big deal to her, she takes quite good care of herself, always have. when she announced that she was doing this I was shocked, and i so questioned her about it, making sure that she was doing it for all the right reasons, and she reassured me she was, and I supported her, went there took pictures etc..I hope she enjoys this attention, although she is complaining about it..Its recognition she deserves...Thanks for posting!

Wow! Congrats! I'm really proud of your daughter! My friend shaved her head in ninth grade for the cancer org. and after that kids made fun of her..in high school! They said she was a nazi, etc, etc. :(
It seems like your town respects your daughter to much to do that though. She must have a good heart.

Thank you so much, I am quite proud of my girly. Her friends are not teasing her at all. They are all rushing up to her and asking her if they can rub her newly shaven head, they think its quite cool and admire her for having the guts to do something they would never do, coz prom is coming up soon..

Locks for Love indeed, she is absolutely delighted that her long hair might make a wig for a child that needs it, or for anyone for that matter.
I was scared her friends might make fun of her, but was pleasantly surprised that they supported her and even helped her raise the funds she received.

You know, I think agreeing to shave one's head (for women) is one of the toughest thing to do... I don't even know if I will ever be capable of doing that, even if we can say that it is just hair and it'll grow back... it is still hard. Brave kid you have there, plus the fact that it was for a good cause, she has a good heart, you must really be proud of her.

I am really proud of her. I have long hair as well, and I was tempted to do it along side of her but it was a fleeting thought, I dont know where she got the nerve to do it..brave indeed.

Wow, I think your daughter and her school did a a wonderful thing to raise money for cancer. I assume that they are selling the hair to raise money which is wonderful because many families just cannot pay for the treatments. I am so happy that they were able to get all that money for such a small town. I would be proud of her and I think you are, too. Have a nice day.

The money goes for the province I believe, Newfoundland has one cancer treating hospital that services the entire island. Their hair was preserved to make wigs, any student that had hair longer than 10 inches got to donate their hair as well.

I already responded here and then I remembered something important and thought I might just add that up as well: In case you're not happy with the quality of hair your daughter has, shaving her bald and rubbing tar on her head in a young age will result in growth of healthier hair next time.
Hope that helps you or anyone else here having a hair problem.

Her hair will grow back pretty full. Trying to talk her into putting tar on her bald head might be a quest I shouldnt attempt..But thanks for posting again. It just may help someone else out there that has a problem with it..

That's very courageous and very nobel of your daughter to do that. You must have raised her real well to have such a heart. I really commend you for raising such a wonder person, I hope I can raise mine that way as well.

I dont know what it was I did to give her such courage to shave all her hair off...I would love to take all the pleasure out of it, but I know that I havent been the only one that has influenced her life so. She is blessed to have many many wonderful people in her life that love her so...I just do the best I can, and hope for the best...I am sure that you will be a wonderful mom to your babies as well...

I lost my dad to cancer 5 years ago, when I asked her why, if she was sure this was something she wanted to do, all she said was "I dont want anyone else to lose a pop"

The girl has caused me more than one night of worry, because sometimes she is so unpredictable, most times I just cross my fingers, say a little prayer and hope to God that what I have done thus far will stick in that stubborn head of hers..lol..but I am really proud, underneath that shiny bald head of hers with all the various stages and phases she has been going through these days is the little girl I bore into this crazy world, its just difficult sometimes to see the real her.

I am really proud of her, I have sat and thought where did I go right, when so many times I felt I was going nowhere. I guess some of the things I have taught her over the years stuck in there somewhere...lol

She shaved off her hair at school with 4 other students to help raise money for cancer research..not to be or impress Britney Spears, in fact she dont care much for this celebrity at all.
I dont think she is worrying about becoming a millionaire someday, although I dont think she would turn it down either...

WoW! Imagine if Britney had shaved her head for the same reason, she would have helped a lot of people. You have a wonderful child. Yo, Britney! This should be the reason why someone should shave their head and not because that bum ex-husband of yours screwed you up!
