If you don't mind watching older movies then I would suggest renting "All quiet on the western front" (not the 1980's version, you want the 1930s one).
It looks at world war one from a german perspective.

I'm not really into war movies but I have seen a few...my favorite is "Saving Private Ryan", with Tom Hanks. I think it is phenominal. I also liked "Letters from Iwo Jima". I have heard that "Flags of Our Fathers" is also good. Another one that I enjoyed was "Good Morning Vietnam". Oh, and lastly, "Born on the Fourth Of July".

Generally I'm not a war movie fan but I do enjoy them on occasion...some of my absolute favs would be
Full Metal Jacket
Behind Enemy Lines
Blackhawk Down
Hamburger Hill
Platoon
Saving Private Ryan
Tears of the Sun
Windtalkers
We Were Soldiers
and thats all I can think of...I think my two favs of those would be Hamburger hill and Full Metal Jacket though..

Platoon is one of my favorites. It really is a great movie. Another good one is The Big Red One. It is kind of old but it really is a terrific story. Apocalypse Now and Patton are also really good ones.
I alos really like Victory, which really isn't about the war, but takes place during the war. It is about prisoners of war playing soccer and attempting an escape. It has Sylvestor Stallone in it. I just really enjoy it.

Patton is my personal favorite war movie. Saving Private Ryan is as realistic as you can get I think. It makes you feel like you are there. The series from HBO, Band of Brothers, is very good also.
