Vegetarian is when a person does not eat meat. Vegan, is when a person does not eat meat, nor any products from an animal, such as an EGG, milk, and other things like that.

It depends on what type of vegetarian diet you are using. If you are a ovo vegetarian you eat no meat but do eat eggs. a lacto-ovo eat not meat but does eat eggs and dairy products.

If you are a pure vegetarian (vegan) then eggs wouldnt be part of your diet. However a lot of people call themselves vegetarian because they don't eat meat so they would probably eat eggs.

lately I've been confused myself. there's vegetarian and ovo-lacto-vegetarian and vegan. I think ovo-lacto-vegetarians don't eat meat but do eat eggs and dairy. vegetarians don't eat meat or milk or dairy. most vegetarians don't specify though, so we assume they eat milk and eggs. but they may not. vegans don't eat meat, eggs, dairy, honey, and also don't use any product that has been tested on animals etc. I think it's also a matter of why one doesn't eat meat. Is it for dietary reasons of because they are against animal suffering?

Eggs where alway's non - vegetarian. Some, vegetarian's who do not consume animal flesh consider it to be vegetarian. In fact dairy products also are an animal product and can be considered non - vegetarian. Those who are strict vegetarian (assuming that they are not hypocrites), should therefore drink cactus milk.LOL

It depends on the school of thought you believe in. Some think that an egg has the potential of life so it is not vegetarian. Others might think that it is ok to eat it as a vegetarian element. You just have to decide which you are more comfortable in believing in if you are a vegan. ;-)

People have different thoughts on that! The eggs we eat are not fertilized eggs, so there are actually no "baby chicks" inside! Therefore, some vegetarians don't mind eating eggs, since they are not really eating an animal. However, vegans refuse to eat animals or animal biproducts... so they would not eat anything that is produced by an animal, such as milk, or eggs.

It's not just the egg that is the deciding factor. It is the quality of life of the hen that laid the egg. Egg farms are horrible places and vegans and some vegetarians don't eat the egg for that reason, nothing to do with the egg itself.

depends on the vegan. My brother is getting me some happy eggs from chickens who run around all day. But they are for the kids. My kids are vegetarians. I think I'll only eat eggs if I have the chickens running around my backyard. Because I know that they won't be killed once they've stopped producing eggs.

It is vegetarian, as many vegetarians eat dairy and eggs. Vegans, however, eat no animal products.

Or maybe we have found that other food that confuses us as to what category it belongs. Like the tomato...fruit or vegetable. I will check back to see the final word on the egg:)

A tomato is definitely a fruit. I wish it weren't. I have no problem eating fruit, but don't like many veggies. I felt good eating a tomato, thinking it was a vegetable. All that tomato eating for nothing! : )

I think egg is included in vegetarian diet but not in vegan diet where you are not allowed to have any food that comes from animals whatsoever. =)

Now this question is like a joke lol which came first the chicken or the egg lol (no offences sir) well but in india i would like to treat this delicacy as a non vegeterian delite and no i cannot explain it is a belief that an egg yoke is a chick in its premature development so it falls under living organism so it is a non vegeterian item but i have also heard experts say that the yoke is not alive as lond as it is in the egg format so it is not alive as well so it is difficult but my belief is that it is non vegeterian

No offences taken ydiwan, Some how I tend to take eggs as a non-vegetarian. I have been doing so, all this while and I think I will not be changing my habits. (I am an Indian and I am also a non-vegetarian, but occasionally, I go on vegetarian diet)

There are two types of egg available in the market, depends on which one you buy. One is the vegetarian egg, which doesn't have a embryo inside it, but has all the nutrient, the other is the egg which contains embryo( the one which God wanted us to have).

I think it depends on who you ask really. I have wondered about this myself. I don't understand how it can be considered vegetarian, but I don't understand how fish is also considered vegetarian by some. Who knows really.

Well, sir. I will have to say that considering it all protien, and protien only comes from meat. I am going with meat eaters. I have never heard of anyone who was a vegetarian that ate eggs. Most vegetarians won't eat ANYTHING to do with animals. Good conversation. I enjoy new topics :) and as you said to ambie, you learn something new everyday. I didn't know vegan was a word either :)

Last time i also thought that egg is a vegetarian but my grandma told me that egg is not considered vegetarian because it comes from a chicken which is a meat product so how can that be considered a vegetarian diet when it comes from a meat source???
