Sleep more...Weigh less

So that was the reason! was my reaction when I read an article that getting enough sleep actually make one person weigh less because ones body would produce a hormone that would make one feel full..and getting six hours or less sleep would make ones body produce more hormones that causes hunger. When I was a student i noticed that me and my classmates would consume a lot of food when we study up to sun up and just have very little sleep. Have you noticed this also? That you feel hungrier when you lack sleep?

That makes perfect sense. My husband suffers from sleep apnea, which is a condition where he stops breathing (for him, he stops breathing an average of 111 times per hour) in his sleep. And he has gained more than 50+. The doctor explained this but not as thoroughly. So now that he is receiving treatment (he has to use a machine that forces air into his airway to keep it open as he sleeps so that he doesn't stop breathing), I hope this will help him loose the weight. Without the machine, he doesn't reach REM sleep which is just like not sleeping at all. Good topic...I gave you a +

My ex also suffered from sleep apnea too and I had to wake him up or shake him from time to time just to make sure that he is still breathing. Your husband's case is really severe and I guess its not only him that is losing sleep but you also. One would really compensate lack of sleep with eating so most do gain a lot of weight. I hope your husband would get well though I havent really heard of cure or operation of such case but I hope there is. To most of us who is blessed to have an uninterrupted sleep do feel appreciative of something that we soooo take for granted when we hear cases like that of your husband. Thanks for responding and God bless!

My husband has been using the CPAP macine for about 4 months now and has lost about 35 pounds all together. He is down to 286. He weight right about 250 when we met 8 years ago.

There is a theory that your body burns more calories during sleep, so you may be right, have to experiment on that.

I am always munching so I never really know if it's from lack of sleep, over sleeping or what. LOL I just like munching at any time is all. I'll have to pay attention to this maybe.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

Thank you very much.
I think I don't gain due to the activity level I lead.

Oh how I envy you Grandpa Bob that you get to eat and munch all you like and not gain so much weight. I wish I could be like that also and munch all those munchelicious foods that I just dream about or eat just a bite. Happy postings to you too!

no I never have noticed that but I can see where it makes since. There are some nights I don't get all of the sleep that I need and sometimes I over sleep. I haven't really noticed how hundrey I am when I first wake up. I am not usally hungry.

I gained 25 pounds in high school because of this. It's not just the hormones, but just the mere fact that I was awake longer and I need to eat every 6 or 7 hours. It was generally cereal, but because of time, my activity also decreased and that was that.

I always thought I was hungrier when I was tired because my body was looking for energy any way it can. I didn't realise it was due to hormones, that is really interesting. I will have to remember that.
