Sorry villageanne, i'm completely ripping off your discussion, but I'm interested to know what prices people are paying around the world...
In my area, in the UK, we pay about 93 pence per litre, which if my calculations are right, works out at about $6.88 per US gallon.
That seems quite alot from looking at what Americans pay but apparently we're not the highest paying country...

I thought we were paying a lot until I saw how much you are paying converted to US dollars. The station near my house sells regular for $2.80, mid-grade for $2.90, and premium for $3.00. I only get about 15 mpg with my vehicle so it costs about $10 to drive to town and back from my house. If I was paying what you have to pay it would be roughly $28. I think the next time I or anyone around me start complaining about our "high" prices I'll have to remember this discussion. Maybe your pay scale and cost of living is greatly different than ours but, how can you afford to go anywhere at all, even to work, at that price?

i know it's absolutely crazy isn't it! but yeh you're right our markets are generally higher, for example trainers that sel for $55 in the US, usually sell for £55 over here. £55 equals around $108. I'm pretty lucky because I have a work van that I take home and my fuel is paid for, but yeh I think we have alot to complain about in this country, alot of things are out of the reach of the average joe public, more so than in europe and america i believe.

I live in Rome, here in Italy the average prices are:
Gasoline €1,24 per litre
Diesel €1,11 per litre
GPL €0,60 per litre
methane €0,78 per kg
I think prices are too high with respect to other countries, in fact consider that one gallon is about 3,8 litres, so 1 gallon of gasoline costs €4,71.
Also if you consider that 1 € is about 1,33 $, 1 gallon of gasoline in Italy costs $6,27.
However high prices of oil in general in Europe motivate car constructors to improve car consumption and, as a consequence, car pollution.

That is very true, there are benefits to the high prices, so it's not all bad. My concern is just who pockets all the money. And it's obvious the oil giants are working together to keep prices high. I think it's quite possible they creat the 'instability' to keep demand high with panic buying.

I only pay 84p per gallon in England. Telford where I live seems to be one of the cheaper places in the south for petrol. It is still expensive though.

86.9p per litre when I filled up today. 93ppl sounds a bit excessive. Is that super-unleaded or normal?

I saw standard unleaded at 96.9p today! No wonder it had an empty forecourt. Mr Brown has increased duty on fuel by 2p today.

Ventura's way too expensive. They're charging here about $3.07 per gallon.

I was sitting around $2.40 a gallon yesterday. That seems to be where it's staying.
