What kinds of rice do you like and what is your favorite way to prepare it? I make my white, long grain, traditionally, but boil and then simmer it in chicken broth. I also add some garlic, Mrs. Dash, and basil during the simmering process. Right before serving, I add frozen peas and carrots, and continue to warm until vergetables are no longer cold. Very simple and delicious! Kind of a variation of Rice-A-Roni, but with no added salt....

I like long grain brown rice the best, followed by wild rice, which I am not even sure is really rice and not some other grassy grain. I do so many different things with rice, it is truly a very forgiving dish. We like it fried quite a bit. My son is on a very fat restricted diet, and he is at a boarding school away from home right now. I bought him a small 4 cup rice cooker and he loves the thing - he sets it before going to class and since it has a sensor it does not over cook the rice, it is ready for him at lunch. then he will make another pot before going back to class and has it when school is out to tide him over for supper. He likes to make his with some bullion broth, and top it with salsa the best. but he also likes sweet and sour sauce. he is really into using sauces since he can't use butter. He goes through about 20 pounds of rice a month!

Wow, that sure is alot of rice per month. I really like long grain rice too. Do you have a good recipe for that? I have never made it. Does it cook up the same as long grain or traditonal white rice?

I generally like to fix brown rice. I use it for beans and rice, stews, or to serve with veggie stir fry. I occasionally use white rice for veggie sushi rolls or rice pudding.

I don't recall ever having brown rice, but as I have been told by my friends and my peers on this discussion, it is much better for us. Do you have any brown rice recipes you can share?

I have not had that! But I do know that is an older generation liking, as my aunt and grandmother always spoke of it too. I bet it would be good as a hot cereal too, huh?
