Do you recycle? Do you think it's important or not? I do all my bottles, cans, papers and glass jars. Here in Switzerland, it is pretty much required anyways. This country is really clean. I noticed it when I moved here fom Boston Massachusetts USA. The first thing I could sense was the air was fresher, and cleaner. Also, I can drink water from the tap. I think if more people really participated in this, the world would be such a cleaner place. They should also have men working on the hour picking up litter on the streets everywhere in the US like they do here. It's pretty amazing. What are your thoughts?

Yup, I recycle and it's a must in here also. Glass, cans, paper, cardboard(not sure if correct word), bio and batteries goes to own trash bins and then rest goes to mixed content bin. I think recycling is good and should be supported by governments.

I am very interested in recycling and wish more people were too.People should be more aware that these unrecycled items go into our landfill and pollute & contaminate our drinking water. It's a domino effect that will eventually destroy our drinking water supply. If you want to see something real scarey do a study on what these unrecycled items do to the drinking water and what poisins & chemicals they add to the landfill...it's eye opening!(Great Topic, Thanks for starting it,...Hope it makes people think more about recycling!)

People from different countries seem to have more of the care, manners and things we used to have. Water is from the mountain snows I bet. Would be great to have more people employed at keeping things clean. We do recycle. Every can I can find for cash. Papers are for the cat box or used out in the garden. Boxes are used to laundry or shipping items for Ebay. Paper bags are for wrapping books at my trading site. Bottles when bought are used again for storage. Milk jugs are used for water for the garden til they spring a leak. So we recycle and am proud of Switzerland.

My partner and I are both very keen on recycling. We have crates for glass, cans, paper and plastic. We take our recycling to the local centre every so often and I find that the amount of rubbish we actually put out for collection has decreased dramatically

yes we recycle here, as we are from switzerland too, its a must lol. a good thing would be if in other countries, where they have less work, to give the street work (cleaning) to people who search for work., that would catch 2 in one. clean steets and more work.

Hehe! I agree with this so much! It would give people the opportunties to find work that aren't well educated, or simply need a second job. They should have more people doing this in America. I remember when I first arrived here. I saw all the street cleaners, and was so amazed. It's so dirty in the cities of Massachusetts, and New York. I am unsure about other states. I am very proud to be living here. I participate every chance I can to ensure that this country stays clean. :-)

Where I used to live we had to separate recyclables from regular trash and put it in appropriate bins for pick up. However in my new home, everything goes together, and when it gets to the trash center, they have employees who sort the trash from the recyclables. I sure wouldn't want that job. Ugh.

I live in the southern part of the US and believe it or not we do not have a recycle program. I have a son that lives in Wisconsin and they have a mandatory recycle program. I do recycle some things but for the most part I just put everything in the same garbage and let the men pick up the bag to take to the landfill. I do know it is important to recycle and the US should make this mandatory in all states. I am not sure if for now it is a state by state ruling or if my state just does not think it contributes to the problem.

I am living in the german part. My husband only speaks swiss german/german, and of course english lol. I met him online years ago from America, and we married almost 2 years ago. He couldn't get a working visa right away in America so I moved here. I really love it. I feel it's more home than home. Yep, this country is well known for cleanliness, chocolates, and of course, watches and coo coo clocks. LOL

Hi, here where I like in the South West of England we get provided with recycling bins that get emptied fortnightly (Mine is always overflowing!) I think it's really important to save the planet so future generations are not walking around on landfills! I recycle about 75% of my rubbish as it's quite easy to do where I live. We have street cleaners too and it's very rare you see rubbish!

I have 2 friends from England. One I have been writing to for 33 years now. She lives in a suburban area. Not exactly sure if it's north south east of west. I also have another online friend since 2001 that lives in London. It's great to know it's clean there too since I will be visiting in the near future! :-)

Yeah, I do recycle a lot. I've seen my mom recycling since we were kids, and I guess I learned it from her. I recycle bottles, cans, jars just like you. I also make it a point to re-use plastic grocery bags as garbage bags too. I would also keep old cartons and boxes for future use. It's good to recycle, I do agree, we can always find use for stuff in the future!

In New York State they do have prisoners picking up trash, but not enough of them in my opinion. Our prisons are full but so are our ditches. Then again, I could see not bringing them into residential areas, etc. I drink tap water from our well. I think for the most part our water out in the country is clean. I'll tell you something that is making me very upset though. When I moved into my house, the town would not give me a recycling bin because they gave one to the previous owner. Obviously, he took it because it's not there. We pay taxes and they want to charge me $55 for a recycle bin. So - then they told me to go to the store and get a plastic bin and write "recycle" on it. So I did - TWICE!!! My husband even drilled holes in the bottom so if it rains they won't fill up with water. The recycling company takes the entire bin. So now I've spent $20 on plastic bins that wound up being recycled. Our state has 5 cent returns on soda bottles so we take those to the redemption center and donate the $ to orphans in Africa who have AIDS. We take our jugs there and they are glad to recycle them even though they don't give $$ for them, it's better than buying bins and getting them stolen. Good grief - it's almost a hassle to recycle here, but it's worth it...

I love recycling. I think anything we can do to keep mother earth clean and healthy, is awesome. It will all make us happier in the long run as well. As for the idea about paying people, by the hour to pick up trash, my opinion.....that's what community service is far..lol

hi. I haven't known how to recycle yet, but I try to make less trashes and reuse the plastic or bottles or jars I got from my consuming. and I believe it is important to do recycle. recently, there is a new TV channel in Indonesia (DAAI TV) that promotes recycle agenda. I think yes, it is amazing if all people participate in this program, the earth will be a cleaner environment for us and the later generation to live on.

when i was in grade school we did a lot of that, we took empty cans and got crayons and paste and colored paper and stuff. then we would make cannisters, decors, mailboxes and stuff. and our teacher would stress the importance of recycling and waste management. i don't have that time anymore so i don't recycle. i should though.

I recycle all the stuff my council will accept - paper, glass, and tins but its annoying that my council won't take plastic bottles but the one across the river will. I always have lots of cardboard too which my council won't take. I'd love to recycle more but I don't have the chance. As for litter I think that people don't worry about dropping it because there is nobody to pull them up if they do it. There are fines but there is nobody to police it.

Wow. Your post made me want to visit Switzerland. For us, we are required to segragate but I don't think everybody is doing it. The rules are very clear but the implementation is kind of lacking. I really think that segragation is necessary because of the rising rate of waste generation in the whole world. If we don't start know, when?
