Isnt it amazing how sometimes the soups you make out of all the odds and ends that need using are the best ones. I've just settled down with a bowl of soup based on potato, and onion an elderly parsnip, a carrot a few sticks of celelry and a handful of spices. Its yummy

This was the common way of making soup.
In the old days, someone would bring a large cauldron and each person that came would bring something to add to the pot. Making a large amount of soup together that was enjoyed and added to by everyone. :)

Of course, the main thing is to know how to make easy but tasty soup. Do you remember the story about the Stone soup whereby the traveller made the soup by using first a stone then adding onion, potato then chicken?
By being creative, you can create amazing soups. The main thing is to be adventurious. If you are very conservative, then you will always be cooking the same dish, never ever wanting to try new things.
