Shar19 Counseling can be a great help as long as both people are willing to go and do the work that is required to make the relationship better and stronger.

Shar19 I agree. It does take two. Both people have to want to make the changes for the better. If someone goes back to their "old" ways then obviously the counseling didn't work because they didn't stick to their "new" ways to make things better.

Shar19 You are lucky to have a strong bond. How long have you been married? I hope that it stays that way and you keep that bond. At least your friends tried the counseling so that was a step in the right direction even though it didn't work out for them.

Shar19 It takes two to make it work. If one person doesn't want the help or even try to fix things then it isn't going to get any better. I'm glad that in the end it all worked out for you.

Shar19 I agree. A professional can sit back and listen to both sides of the story without being judgemental and offer some good advice.

Shar19 You were so smart to get out of that marriage. Some people have so many warning signs but still don't get out. You're right both people have to want to make it work and they have to be honest with each other.

Shar19 It is nice to be able to get advice from an elderly person who has been through marriage and tough times. They can sometimes give a lot of good advice. Although I believe that at times people need to seek the advice of a professional.

Shar19 That is a big problem right there - when one person doesn't or won't go to get help. It is like they are saying they don't care enough to save the marriage. You are better off being without a person like that.

Shar19 I think that is a great idea. There should be some kind of mandatory "marriage tune-up" course, maybe after every 5 years or so. That would probably save a lot of marriages.

Shar19 You are correct, marriage takes a lot of work and will only work if both people are commited to making it work. If one person doesn't try hard enough to keep it going strong then they must not care enough.

Shar19 Now that I can understand with your husband being ill. However, if a person isn't sick and they have been non-affectionate for many years then something has to be wrong.

Shar19 I agree. Although sometimes people are very careful with who they choose to marry or have a relationship with and every is great for the first couple of years, then everything changes for some reason.

Shar19 I can understand someone not wanting to be intimate for months after having a baby, that is perfectly normal. However, if there is no itimacy for many years then that is not normal unless of course someone is seriously ill or elderly.

Shar19 Having children does make things more difficult, especially if there are not other real reasons to leave.

Shar19 I think some people just eventually turn their love into just more of a friendship and then they are stuck in a rut. I guess some people just aren't meant to be together forever and have that spark that lasts a lifetime.

Shar19 Hey Jen! I think there are a lot of things to consider too. It's just sad when you can love someone so much and want to share that love with your spouse but they don't want to give love back to you. It makes me wonder how people keep from getting bored with...

Shar19 Communication is very important on both parts. The problem is that a lot of time the male thinks that there is no problem.
