If they have Lifejackets on boats, why not parachutes on airliners?

yes they have lifejackets on boats for the passenger in case of an accident, the passengers can survive. why do airliners have lifejackets under the seat but not parachutes? all comments are appreciated. thank you.

slctalbot If a plane is going down it would be to hard to get 100 people to listen to direction on how to operate a parachute, get them lined up and out the door in time. Plus if you don't open the parachute at the right Altitude people could and would die.
