Has it become common practice to hyphenate a word, and on the next line leave only two letters dangling? I know the new graphics program we're using allows this, but I call my designer to task and force him to fix it. Move...

wildgeese177 Yeah, if the word is long enough it works. Otherwise, the reader doesn't know where you're going...and they quit reading.

wildgeese177 I agree that readers need some white eye relief. But the text runaround around the outside of a graphic, when fully justified, should be even, and consistent until deliberate open space is created......don't you agree? It sure shouldn't be inadvertent.

wildgeese177 Are you working with full justification though? There's a lot of ways around it, including modifying the text. Two letters, on the next line hyphenated hurts bad to my eyes. OK, I admit I'm an old crumudgeon.

wildgeese177 Sounds to me as if you can write in English. As a matter of fact, the language you just used is better than some of the freelance writers I've dealt with. And, if no one at your workplace has said this, thank you for correcting the errors you see....

wildgeese177 Yeah, press releases can be the worst of the entire lot. So do you even bother reading the newspaper? The folks at work think I'm nuts because I quit a few years ago, but then again, they are afraid to even let me look over their letters before they go...
