JonLove Getting a laptop is ideal if you: like working outside, or your on the go. Getting a desktop is ideal if you: want to get more bang for your buck, and you dont care about mobility.

JonLove Your definitely right. XP is much easier for a novice to use in my opinion. The software is for XP is more mainstream than Linux which is also a plus. Starting off on Vista is the way to go if your not familiar with XP.
