deep257 yes you can change. but since you have bought a new laptop, there is one little problem. most laptops nowadays comes with a vista ready hardware and they are providing driver updates for vista only. i can say this because i have also bought a new compaq laptop...

deep257 apart from storage and pit size you can make out the difference between a cd and a dvd by simply looking at it . both cd and the dvd have shiny reading surface but since dvd has smaller pits and has pit density much more than a cd it has a darker violet tone...
