lolwat MSN does have its problems but it is one of the most widely used instant messaging programs there is. Through MSN you need to add people who are your friends so what makes you sure your friends will already have or switch to whichever web messenger you choose?...

lolwat I don't know of any legit method. Although i did once find an XSS vulnerability in facebook which alowed me to setup an ip logger on my profile and record the IP's of anyone viewing it.
