How many days can a men fast?

I can fast more than a month But I am afraid If I become sick while I am fasting... will I die if I get sick while fasting? I want to fast at least for 40 days... can a men survive with water only? for how many days?

Diabetes

My father is a diabetes patient since 20yrs back. Some of my friends said it is an incurable disease.will it be pass on to the children? If so, How can i prevent from this dreadful disease?
