Weird problem while sleeping

When I go to sleep, especially very late, I suddenly regain conciousness within a few minutes. However, I do not have any control over my physical body. I try to move my arms, legs and head during this phase, but with no success....

I have always been intrigued and wanted an clear explantion to this phenomenon. Do blind people actually dream. If so, how exactly is the experience? Can they see things? If so, what do they see?
