I have had to call the Dell Technical Support people almost eight times now because of blackouts and freezing on my new computer and I was told by my Mac User friends that I would never had had to do this if I had a Mac. Also, my McAfee Virus Protection does not work, my old Dell printer does not work with my new Dell system, I cannot use systems that I once loved to use, and my time has been wasted from having to get on the phone so much just to have my computer fixed. This is insane. It is a new computer, why do I have so many problems with it?

I've heard from a lot of people that the technical support of Dell is so poor so I would not really buy anything from them. I think that they may be cutting a lot of corners so they can sell their products so cheap and that's why it keeps on breaking down or things are not compatible.
I've heard lots of good things about Macs but I would never buy a Mac. The reason for this is that the majority of businesses and institutions use a PC rather than a Mac. So a Mac would not really be of much use no matter how reliable they may be. :o)

Dell Technical Support is a joke. People do not do much to help you if your computer is screwed up. It sucks to have a Dell. I told my mom that I wanted a Mac when we decided to get a new computer, but my mother... forget it, she cannot be bardered with.

You're right, they are a joke. The problem here is that if you are a technical person and you know what the problem is, they still need to start from page 1 of their "script". They would not give you any support if say you want to jump to page 5 of their script for instance. hehe Sometimes I wonder how technical they really are.
From what you've said, I think you're bettery off saving up yourself rather than relying on your mom to get a Mac. :o)

It is true, they are all working from a script, I always notice that. They never actually know what the problems is, or what to do.

I have talked to the Dell Tech Support so many times and all they can tell is, "we will do the best we can to help you." And then nothing works and sometimes things end up being worse than what they were before.

oh geesh umm have you tried uninstalling the my way search they have on dells computers or you could try reformatting the computer. The old dell I had i couldn't get rid of the my way search thingy and so I reformatted and I never saw it again. From what I hear its a spyware and can cause probs so you could try that.

Hi, I work right next door to a pc repair place and only today he was discussing with me about a Dell computer and how much it was to repair a certain part because it could only be sent back to Dell! I think you will know which brand to avoid next time and if you're running vista aswell you'll be having twice the problems!

It is a good advice. I never buy computer brands. They are expensive and do the same as white line computers. And you don't have to pay for windows if you are a Linux user. But macs very stable but if you need a great variety of software then it is difficult to use mac because there are very lithe software available to it.

Problems like that seem to come in both forms: Software and Hardware. Hardware issues are usually solved easily, just replace the hardware or re-install the driver.
Software issues can be realllllly difficult to solve sometimes. It may not be Dell's fault, although I agree that the customer service with Dell may be lacking sometimes.
Think of this as a great opportunity to learn how to be a computer tech!

I had no idea Dells had such a bad reputation. I am hoping to get a cheap laptop, possibly when I am in the States this summer and am really wary of the new Vista. I guess I won't be looking into Dell. I have a friend who worked for them for years and he is an absoloute messer, so I can only imagine what it would be like getting him on the other end of a customer service call. Yikes!

Dell do have a bad reputation. One of my collegian sisters bought a Dell before I did, but neglected to tell me about it, and when I told her that I bought one a few months ago, she said,"How many times did you call tech support?" and I was stunned, I told her about five or more times and she told me about nine. Talk about a bad reputation.

You have a Dell Brand Computer? How long have you had it? Does it have Windows Vista, and have you used a Mac before?

Thanks, I was going to buy a dell pc in the near future, if not for your post I would have make a big mistake, I'm not getting a mac though, I am thinking of an HP of 2GB that I saw or an acer or asur think those are the names. I'm getting if all goes well a portable computer in a few months time, and I'd been hanging around the dell site until I found your post, well, let me say I haven't visited them again, and it was good to as I found a much better HP. Thanks!

You are welcomed, glad to help. Honestly, listen to people who have had the computers before or who have bought them and have had them for about six months or more and see how satisfied they are, and remember one person's opinion does not cut it.

I know in the state where I live, the attorney general is doing an investigation into Dell Computers because of their terrible customer service program. One woman said she got the parts in the mail and the customer service representative told her to fix the computer herself. I used to love Dell, but I won't ever buy another one. My son is starting college in the fall and most colleges have offer computer discounts with Dell only, but we won't be buying him a Dell..we'll be getting him a Mac.

Go for Apple computers! I used to have a Dell computer and now I have an Apple Computer. I have the iMac. I made the right choice of choosing Mac over Dell. The product is better and service is the best (I believe they won an award for customer service).

Personally I would not buy any pre made computer. Dell or Compaq or HP etc. I have never had a good experience with any pre built computer. I built my last computer a few years back from scratch and it is still going strong today. I bought the case and power supply and hard drive and sound card etc. all seperately and built it from the ground up and I have had no issues with it. Honestly that is the best way to go if you want a truely good computer. If you dont know how to build it yourself then research the best parts for it and have someone build it for you. That is my opinion anyways.

I hear that from a lot of people that when they have their own kits and build their own computers, they have little to no problems with their computer.

I LOVE YOUR SILVER SURFER AVATAR!!! I met the man who plays Silver Surfer and he is so amazing. Anyway, again you are one of the few who likes Dell and who has not had a bad experience with it, but I have and now I have to live with it.

i have a dell notebook and yes i have to agree with you that their service is very poor even when i want to buy it and i have to call the technical support as well because the wifi is not working... it is really crap... and it takes the technical person ages to get back to me and fix my computer... i have to threaten them in order to make them come to fix it... i can't use my internet for more than a month... and i've written a feedback to them but they do not response to me... poor... i regret for buying dell...

I have bought a Dell desktop in a few years back. My monitor was spoiled just after the warranty. Actually, quite a few of problems occurred with my Dell PC too. I bought Dell as I thought it's supposed to be branded, so it's really well made. But I think I was wrong. If I am going to get another new PC, I'll definitely won't choose Dell anymore. Although the brand is famous, but the products don't seem to be good enough.
By the way, the technical support here are quite helpful. I can't remember what problem I had, I called for support, and it's still within warranty, and the support people came to my house and helped to fix the problem very soon.

They were not helpful with me, they did not offer to come to my house or anything, they just kept reading things from a script, and a lot of those things they were doing to my computer had nothing to do with the problems my computer was having.

Well I have had a very nice experience with my two Dells so I can't complain. On the Mac issue, my best friend is a die hard Mac user, but his latest computer is testing that. The hard drive had blown twice now, and he has used it less than half the year he has owned it. He has to send it 100 miles away to get it serviced, and they are making him do that again. Last time it took 6 weeks to replace the hard drive. I keep kidding him about those Mac/PC commercials as my PCs hum along.

Chances are, your problems are MUCH more likely from the fact that your Virus Protection and Printer are NOT compatible with Windows XP of Vista. A majority of software and hardware out there is going to run into problems with Vista. Vista is brand new, your software and hardware may not speak it's language.
I have three dell computers in my house. I have helped seven friends buy computers and 6 of them ended up with Dells. They are all very reliable and great working machines and have never given me any reason to call tech support, even though some of them are now several years old.
Sorry you've had a bad experience with Dell!

i think you just have a very bad experience in Dell. i also had experience some problem in our DELL Computers. the motherboard has cheap capacitor so after 2 years, all computers with bad capacitors broke down, luckily we have a 3 year warranty and the company that we bought our dell computers replace the motherboard of those computer. they said that all capacitor with an x mark are cheap so i check all the motherboard of all the DELL computer and make the supplier replace all those motherboard. hahaha...
