that her boss made this statement one time, " you only lie when it is more convenient than the truth." But the bible says do not lie. That also includes what people consider a "little white lie." When you think of it what is a little white lie? I personally do not think it is right to lie about about anything. If you do not want to answer a persons question honestly then change the subject. If they do not let you change the subject then tell them the truth in a polite and loving way, as well as you can. What is your opinion on lying? It is ok for you tell and lie whether it is a big lie or a little lie? What if you telling the truth would hurt the other person, how would you handle this?

Telling lies is not right nor is it Biblical I am surprised that your Sunday school teacher said this she of all people should know what the Bible says about lying. A lie is a lie and you should not lie big or small it is still a sin.

She did not say this was right to lie, she was just using this as an example of how most people think it is ok to lie sometimes.

I don't belive in lying either. I also don't belive in half truths. Its kinda funny that you brought up this subject because I just started a discussion this morning about little white lies. I also don't believe in hurting someone by telling them the truth. Sometimes the truth can be more hurtful that not saying anything. The bible also says to not hurt or use force on your neighbor. To hold your tongue. Even telling someone the truth in a polite and loving way can be very hurtful. My momma always said if you can't say something nice to not say nothing at all.

What if someone keeps after you to tell them what you think and they will not let it go, how would you handle this?

I mostly tell the person to let it go because I am not in the mood to talk about it anymore. The can see I am getting upset. So they drop the matter.

Lying is never good at all. I think it is just alot better to tell the truth and get it over with.

Some people are compulsive liars. My oldest grandson's girlfriend is one of them. She can not tell the truth. To spare someones feelings, I have not told them about things that I know will hurt them. If you can change the subject it is good but some people just don't let you and it is probably best to walk away if they will let you.

Lying is wrong. There is no gray area(in-between). There are no white lies and no black lies. We have discussed this in my children's Wednesday night class. They are concerned on telling the truth and hurting someone's feelings. I tell them to try to change the subject if any way possible. If there is no other way around it, then we must tell the truth in love. Which is very hard to do sometimes.

well, for me a lie is a lie... there is no small lie, big lie or white lie... they are all the same to me and they are sin no matter how small it is... i always try to be as honest as i can in every situation even though it means that i will hurt other people's feelings... anyway, the truth sometimes hurts but it is still much more better rather than lying...

I know this sounds horrible but I really have no problems with telling a lie. I wouldn't do it to the persons I love but to stranger... no problem :-)

I completely agree with you. If I don't want to answer something I'm perfectly ok with telling people, "I'm not comfortable answering that question" "are you sure you want to know?" or simply "don't worry about it".

I like you idea of telling the truth in a polite and loving way.The only time I lie is during gift giving season so I won't spoil the surprize.

I hate saying lies but there are circumstances where you just have no other choice then to lie.For instance say my grandma is old and she cant take bad news, lets just say that her heart is too week for that. When something wrong goes with my mother and if my grandma asks me about it, i just cant say the truth. It may cause damage to her. These are the situations where you are allowed to say lies cuz saying the truth could result in potential damage. So i think you can say lies. Not always though.Only when you have to and when you're desperate.

Every single day we may conciuosly or unconsciously utter a lie. White lies, huge lies they are all sins. Of course, we all don't want to tell lies but sometimes there is really a must to do so. This sound subjective. But I personally, I can't say that I never lied or hated the act of it, I know I should hate it or abhor it, but I have my reasons why I have to do it at times. Sometimes, I just do it to protect something or stuff like that. But on the other hand, I know this shouldn't be the practice.

See its said that to hide one lie you have to speak 100 lies. So its better to say truth at first instance only. Every religious book teaches this. I personally beleive that speaking truth is good. Once you speak lie than there is fear of being caught and you mind diverts and u start thinking if my lie is caught what all explanation i need to hide it .... this vicous circle goes on.

I dislike liars and think it is a horrible habit to get into. I have found that a person who will lie will also steal. SOme people can lie without blinking an eye. Some people will not look you in the eye when they are telling a lie. I someone asks me the truth about something and they really want to know then I will tell them.

we all lie, if anybody thinks they never lied then they are very arrogant or fooling themselves. I am talking about a white lie here not the major lies that we all know we are doing, I will give you an example of a white lie. you child just drew a picture of something you cannot even figure out, she says do you like it mama and you say yes it is beautiful she says see I drew the dog good mommy and you say yes you did. you didn't see the dog on that picture all you saw was a bunch of scratches in crayon.

I always try to keep things in truth. But the fact is that many people lie. Even I've told lies before. Sometimes what is considered to be a "little white lie" is in fact more than just little, it's huge and wrong. Sometimes people do have to lie, not to be rude or disrespectful but to protect oneself. Other people lie to get what they want and others just out of spite. A lie goes a long way. But in all truth it isn't always good to lie.
