My FINGERS and FEET seem to go NUMB these DAYS ....

I am a heathly 48 year old female who has typed too many years in my life, and over the past few years I have noticed that my hands and fingers go numb quite often, thinking that it was probably due to the fact that they are overworked, but now I find that my feet and toes are going numb for the past 2 weeks, usually once or twice a day I notice this. I told my boyfriend about it him seems to think that it is a pinced nerve in my back from the fall I took in December, what do you think? Have you ever had this happen to you?? I am not disabled and never have been, I have always been very active, just slowing down over the past few months with a hurt back from falling on the ice while attempting to skate, any ideas on what is happening to me, besides getting to old for this body??

I would think that your legs might be more likely to go numb from a pinched nerve first. Maybe it is the way you are sitting? Have you been checked for diabetes? I have know some people with diabets who have numbness or tingling in their feet. Maybe you should check with your doctor?

Isn't Diabetes a heredity disease?? I thought it was and since no one in my bloodline for many generations has ever had such a disease I would think that I would not.

Nope I don't do anything of those things, like I said, I am very heathly, have not had a cold in several months and keep very active with my stepdaughters (who are 7 & 8 years old) and my granddaughter who is 3 years and I babysit her 4 times a week, other than the numbness in my feet (and not from wearing shoes cause all I wear is flip flops) but other than the numbness I have been very heathly, knock on wood ....

Hello, texascalssygal, honestly I am not sure what happen to you.So do you feel painful as well? And for how long will your feet and toes go numb? I am not sure the kind of numbness should be experienced by everyone, whenever you keep the same position for sometime, like when you are sitting down ,there may be chances that the blood cannot reach your feet or toes because of your sitting posture. If it happens again, you can try to stand up and have a walk,I think it is because you have been sitting for too long.

Hi Easy, perhaps it is because I am sitting too long, it happens when I am on my couch propped up on pillows (which I have been doing for several years now when I work) and I have the laptop on my lap ... there is no pain, just numbess, I can't figure it out, what it could be. Thanks for responding, it is always appreciated.

I get that all the time when I wake up, actual my hand doctor told me that was the early signs of carpet tunnel syndrome developing in your hands and told me not to type so much (lol)

Sometimes when i wake up at my bed,i feel numb at my hands because my hands have been pressed by my body so that no blood can pass to my hands, that is the reason for the numbness.

I know I have the early signs of carpal tunnel syndrome, I was checked out years ago and with all the typing I do, it is no wonder, just I don't think you can get carpal tunnel in your feet (he he)

It could be poor circulation, sometimes cause by smoking. Your hurt back though, does seem to fit in with your symptons. i am 49 years of age, & don't have these problems, but am always being tokd that smoking will, do various things. You hasd [probably get a Doctor to check it out if it continues, as I'm no expert on these things (although my Mother is)!

I don't smoke and never had so we can take that out of the equation, but I appreciate the concern, it is always appreciated when you respond to my discussions.

Stu's mom has the same thing, they started to go a little numb at the fingers, then it got more frequent, then into the toes, and now her complete feet. she went to the doctor to find out what was going on, she may be old but she's really active and they told her it had something to do with her blood, i can't quite remember but i believe it was something to do with lack of circulation. Maybe it's a good idea to go to the doctor and get a scan, make sure everything's alright just in case hun.

I was reading some of your replies to the responses...of how you get the numbness in your feet especially when all propped up with your laptop...it could be a simple case of just plain sitting too long...so get moving gal!! LOL--as for the hands...thank goodness I haven't hand it in awhile but I have that carpal tunnel business and it doesn't have to be from too much typing...any repetitive action with the hands will trigger carpal tunnel..even housecleaning Still maybe for your peace of mind...maybe get checked out with a doc Here's a link about numbness on hands and feet maybe that fall did do something though...you're not diabetic are you? http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003206.htm there are more links but I sometimes kind of avoid reading too much medical causes --otherwise you'd think you had ever disease going and become a hypochondriac! LOL

The numbness in your fingers and hands could be carpal tunnel syndrome. It usually affects people who type alot. The numbness in your feet I do not have a clue about. If I were you I would see a doctor and ask him about both conditions.

Yeah I already know I have the beginning stages of carpel tunnel, too many years of typing 100 wpm for hyper attorneys, but I didn't think you could get it in your feet, I rarely wear shoes so I know it is not from that.

Perhaps try a Vitamin B complex to make sure your cells are getting enough oxygen?Just a thought.

You could be right about the typing and the sitting. Boyfriend also could be right. I have some problems because of arthritis in three of my vertebrae. I would also ask if you have been screened recently for diabetes. I have some numbness and tingling episodes. The doc wants me to have an electro conductivity test, I forget it's real name, the chiropractor says, why, if you are not going to change anything,it is painful and expensive. Doc said it was carpal tunnel , but that does not explain what happens in my leg. I really benefit by taking mega doses of vitamin B6. I would talk to the doctor.

You need to go to the doctor right away I had and it was a problem with one the arteries to my heart. So they had to put a stent in. As far as the tingling going away it will always be with me. But not as bad. I had it for a while before I went. So please make an appointment with your doctor.

I am not one to run to the doctor unless I am on fire, so to speak, but if it continues or gets worse I will see one. Thanks for responding, it is always appreciated.

I know this is a late response but get yourself seen by a doctor,if you haven't already.....my father went through this in his early 40's,he too ignored it until he had a heartattack, his main arteries in his heart were blocked and he ahd a lot of blockage in his legs.....I thank god they got to him early enough to repair the arteries but the damage was done and was never the same....good luck to you

Hun, I'd take it to the doctor. Could be a pinched nerve, could be something more serious. If they've been going numb over the last few years then that's not a fall in December. Hopefully it isn't anything serious, but there are a few things that it could be that could be bad.

Nope not over a few years, this numbness just started a few weeks ago, so I am concerned, thought maybe some myLotters might know what it is. Thanks for responding, it is always appreciated.

When does it goes numb? When you are sleeping or even when you are awake? Or only when the temperature is too cold. Other than the numbness, are they other pains or you feel lethargic? Sorry, I asked too many questions. I hestiate to speculate, may I suggest you go for a checkup for assurance. One thing for sure is issue with blood circulation.

I am awake when they go numb, especially in my feet, no pain, thank goodness, but usually I am sitting on the couch with my laptop on my lap that I notice my feet are numb (mind you the laptop is not heavy, very lightweight) and this is just started happening and I have been on a laptop for the past 5 years.

Hi texasclassygal, im actually thinking 2 things on that, : one is, my grandmother used to have that kind of numbness too, but when we had it checked, we found out that her potassion level in her body went below normal that we have to ask her to eat lots of banana and aovcado and it did helped her somehow... : 2nd, a good friend in canada had an operation because of that numbness too, its because of the nerve..i dont exactly understand what the doctors esplanation. hope you are fine now...take care

If you had only said fingers and hands, I would have said you probably have carpel tunnel syndrome, but don't know about the feet and toes. I do have a chair I use in the computer room that seems to sometimes cut right across the back of my thigh and causes my left foot to go to sleep until the toes hurt big time. That's when I know I've been on the computer too long and have to get off.

I had this when I was pregnant with my last child and it was called Carpel Tunnel Syndrome . It can get quite painful and I had to wear a brace . It is caused from repetitive behavior and typing is really bad for it . Not sure about your feet though as I never had it in my feet . You should go have this checked out as you don't want to find out it would have not got as bad if you had , had it checked out earlier . If it is carel tunnel then you will be able to get a brace to wear to help with the pain and will be told to limit your use with the limbs that are going numb on you . In severe cases they have to operate so it would be best to have it checked out as soon as possible and if it isn't this then it would be good to know what it was in case your boyfriend is right . Best of luck and take care !!

Hi Texasclassygal! I hope you feel better now. Maybe to consult a doctor would be better. At least, you'll know at once if it's something serious. Hopefully not. Take care! (^^,)

In your 40's strange things do start happening to your body. I've never had the numbness like you are talking about, but what your boyfriend said could be the reason. I think you probably should see a doctor to find out for sure though. I'm thinking that if it was a pinched nerve you would have noticed it before now.
