We always try our best to tip the waiter. If we have enough money we have a scale we go by. We do not do percentages. It isnt fair for the waiters that are more polite and work harder.
$2- if they are polite
$1-If they fill our drinks before we run out
$1-If the table is clean
$1- for every person that is at our table.
With just Sean and I, if they are really good and do all of that stuff... they can earn 7 bucks.

I always tip the wait staff. Usually I tip about 20% if they are really good (especially when we have the kids with us). I've been known to tip more if the service was exceptional. If they are absolutely horrible, I'll tip as low as 10%.
There was one time my hubby and I went out and the service was so aweful that we only left a penny. The waitress was only at our table twice: once to take our order, and once to bring our food and drinks (together). No refills, no "how's the food," nothing. We had to ask the manager for our bill! The restaurant was not even busy that night.

In India, star hotels expect 15% tips and sometimes it is added to thebill at the request of customer, if they are paying through cards or company is sending the cheque. In medium hotels, the waiters are grateful if 10% is given. In smaller restaurants, waiters do not get tips at all. In many reputed hotels run by a family, tips of the waiters are pooled and shared equitably among all the stafff including people who wash the dish, cashier, cooks etc.

Yes, my sister use to be a waitress, and lots of people use to stiff her, and it was hard on her because that is how she made her living, if they are really a bad waitress, then I might not tip them 10%, but most of the time I still do, they have to live too.

Usually at lunch, I tip 10%, at dinner, 15%. Also, it depends on the service I get.

I worked as a server for years and most people don't tip for anything, then complain about the service. I always tip at least 25% of the bill unless the service was bad, then I talk to the server and tell them. If they have a good reason and not just some lame excuse or a bunch of attitude, I'll still tip around 20%. Even if the service is really bad, I still usually tip about 10%. If it is downright awful and/or the server is rude, I'll tip $1.00 as an insult and maybe complain to the manager.

I always tip according to the quality of service received. If they were very good they get about 15% if they are so-so the get about 10% if they bad I leave 25 cents just so they know I didn't forget to leave one.

We tip the waiter/waitress about 15%, usually more because breaking bills is not fun. I am forever reminded, though, of the one Friends episode where the one guy (I think it was Bruce Willis or some guest star) tips 2% and then Ross gets mad and, yeah. TV leaves such an impression on it's viewers.
