making extra money by recycling...

on mylot... a lot of people talk about making extra money on line.... but what about making extra money not using the computer.. for the last few years i have been recycling aluminium drinks cans.... ok not a lot of money.... but it all adds up..... we used to allways take a carrier bag with us, and when we seen a alu. can.. we used to pick it up...and crush it in the can crusher.... and keep them in the shed until we had a load to weigh in..... there are still loads of places in the uk that will pay for alu. drinks cans... but not steel ones.... do you do this? or what do you do to get extra money not using the interent.?

in my state there is a bottle deposit. each recyclable can or bottle get you a nickel when it is returned. i sometimes do this and save the slips that come out of the machine. then one day when i need some gas in my car or a few groceries, i turn in the slips. many people don't recycle, so sometimes if i am out in the country, i pick up the cans by the side of the road. it not only earns me some money, but it helps clean up the scenery a little.

I save an return all of our returnable drink containers. Here we can return plastic and glass bottles and drink cans for 5 cents each. With the rising cost of aluminum however, I think it actually may be more profitable to crush the cans and sell them as scrap metal rather than 5 cents a can but I don't know......I will have to look into that.

The price around here is about 40 cents per pound. That's not even close to 5 cents per can you can get.

Yes, I find this post very unique and informative at the same!;) We have some junk shops here that buys recyclable materials, like plastics, papers and other pieces of what's supposed to be appliances!;) These junk shops where the one's who recycle the materials, or either the one's who also sold it on recycling plants. Well aside from earning extar money/income, we also do our part to save the planet!;)

hi,can i ask your nationnality? i think collecting recycling junk like what you did is profitable and enverienmental.it should be approved.but in China, only very poor people who have no capital and no expertise will collect recycling junks and sell them for money to earn their living.Generally, people look down upon them and think the work dirty and inglorious.so i have no courage to cllect recycling junks to earn extra money. don't your citizens have the same observation?didn't you feel lose your face when you did the work, which embarrass most of our chinese people.

I recycle cans. I use to have a savings account that had over $3000.00 in it because of saving that money. Here in Iowa we get 5 cents per bottle and can. Peopel just leave money like that laying around and I come take it back. The most I have ever gotten in one haul was $20 but my 3 friends also got $20 from that haul for a total of $80. We cleaned up after a frat party and it only took us about an hour to do.

I used to do this when I lived in New York. But unfortuantly the state I live in now, South Carolina, does not have this program. In fact only a handful of states still pay you for your returned cans. i think it's a great program, but I can also see it being a real financial loss for some companies.

I also do that here in the Philippines, and it's around .20 cents equivalent to yours. Not only that I also sell used paper for recycling and empty cartridges too. You are right they are not much, but when it all adds up it's something.

Oh! Here you guys are! I put recycling as one of my Mylot interests, and alas there was only one other person that also had it down as an interest. Seems to me all you folks are interested too! Why not put recycling as an interest? Anyway, there are tons more ways you can recycle. It may not always put money in your pocket; sometimes it just keeps more money in your pocket! I have written a few articles on Helium about creative recycling. I will put a link on my profile so you can access them there. Let me know if you have any questions or comments about my ideas! Thanks!

OK! For some reason I can't add any web site links to my profile right now. However, if you go to my web site, there is a link there that will take you to the Helium articles. 'Sorry about the indirect method! Thanks again! CH

Thank you for sharing this. Here in our country, there are lots of recycling centers here, we call them JUNKSHOPS. And yes, people do earn a lot from recycling. The weird thing is people tend to disregard the importance of recycling. :)

Yeah, there is money in that and we used to do this when we were growing up at home. But, it is about the time with me and I don't have it. Everything about making extra money takes time and it is too bad I don't have it.
