China is still forcing women to have abortions

This has been in the news off and on for several years. But it is still going on. There is a strict law in place. Couples are only allowed to have one child. If a woman gets pregnant again, they force them to have an abortion. This article begins with the story of a woman 7 months pregnant who was forcibly taken from her home and given an abortion. It is a terrible thing to live like this. http://www.cwfa.org/articles/11108/CWA/life/index.htm

You can see that china is even watching here ..and those who are from china..if they speak against the laws can be put away..even killed or imprisoned for life..No one is going to say anything that will make them end up before the CHinese tribunal.. I am sure every form of internet going in china is strictly monitored!!

No matter how much China wants to be seen on the world stage with the Olympics and other things they are still a repressive, controling government. Honestly I really dont understand why our companies want to invest so much in that country. It is a shame to me that China is a country that we borrow money from to run our government. I can understand the concern about overpopulation there but there are better ways to handle it.

you want to know why american companies invest so much in our china.that is because you want to earn money and because we china with a large population has a big market for your goods.as for the abortion, i also feel a little bit unfair for the parents and the little life, but there is really no other good choice, for china really has an overpowered population. we must take some action to prevent it growing, thus we make out the one child policy, it is a policy which is like your law of banning the mobility of handguns. so we must obey the policy or we must pay the penalty for it.

You raise very good poiints. I do think though that matters of a personal nature are just that personal. I understand how China is eager to sell to the US. I do worry about not only the product quality but the work conditions. I have to laugh though at the fact that if China were to pull the plug and want the money back that has been loaned to us, we would have a problem. I can only say what I have read or seen about the type of government and the way people are treated is not the way I would like to have things done. At least we can call our President and idiot and not be repressed for saying it. Thanks for your response.

As far as i know there is no such rule in china where abortions are forced rather there is a drastic change in the taxation policy if you go for a second child and you loose a lot of previlages as a citizen leading to a sharp outgo of funds. I think this is a great rule and if the same could be implemented in india the country would have a much better place to live in.

Thats terrible i did not know this.how can this be? That seems so horrible, what if the mother does not believe in abortion? they make her anyway? I sure do not want to live in a country like this under domination..This kind of law takes away the rights one has to have free will.I am glad you posted this because i was not aware of that..

Hi estherlou! That is very cruel! I thought it is not happening anymore but I guess I am wrong. I am sorry was not able to read the article about it which you have posted because something is wrong with my computer, I think. Anyway such kind of news is horrible. I mean, forcing a woman to get an abortion is unjust and cruel. Women should have the right to decide for themselves and to force a family to have one child is unjust. I wouldn't want to be living like that either. I pity that woman and I am really sad for her. Take care and have a nice day.

That is so sad. I have heard a little bit about China's law's. It seems so old style and barbaric but if they are doing it for a reason due to population then I guess they have a fair reason. I am glad to live in a country where we can have more kids. I feel greatly for that poor lady being removed from her own home and having an abortion forced on her.

My friend who's from China was saying that in her country there are so many "unfair" and "insane" things (at least for us) are normal. She told me that government especially hates baby girl because they cannot use them as a military later on. Some people snitch their neighbor who is secretly having an extra baby to government to get a reward. I feel that it's terrible also.I am not sure how the true situations are over there but seems like it's "really" happening at there.......

That is why I am pro choice and choice is the most important word. It should be up to the woman, not the government, or her family,or her husband to decide. The sad part is that there are too many Chinese that the government has to abort these pregnancies.

OMG, this is a terrible issue and I am sad for those women who have to go through ordeal and this night mare in their lives. A seven month baby is already human and thats terrible to force to abort. Why do they have to do that, I dont get the point of that kind of doing and in a country like china. Surely its a communist country and I dont have the guts to endure such hardships. I just hope they begin to understand the value of life.

It sounds terrible that this poor woman was forced to have an abortion at a late stage of pregnancy. I think she must have been terrified to be collected from her home and taken to the hospital. Was this a legal thing for the authorities to do to her? I understand that due to China's huge population they have the one child policy. If twins or triplets are born is it treated like just one child had been born or does a first pregnancy like this give the parents trouble with the authorities? It can't be helped if a lady gets pregnant with a multiple number of babies. So if a woman had a second baby housing and schooling problems are likely. Is this a payment to the government? What is meant by some people being allowed to have more than one child. Is that the rich, well educated community?

hello estherlou! i can understand your feeling,it is really a terrible thing to force a pregnant woman to abort, but as every couples are allowed to have a child is a policy in china.there are too many people in china, and the number of people becomes a burden of the country.so in my opinion it is really terrible but we have no way to deal with the problem.

Indeed that sounds like a very terrible thing to do. But sometimes, there doesn't seem to be a choice. China has the largest population in the world, and if they don't control the birth rate, it would be too over-populated....and this can lead to more problems than what is current now. It is an even more frightening thought that World War 3 would happen....simply to remove overpopulation in the world...

I didn't read the article, but I still have a few points. I've heard about the one child law in CHina for a number of years. What's worse than forced abortions, however, are the women in china who have female babies and kill them because males are better suited to take care of the family. So these women starve, or sufficate their female babies so that they can have another child and they hope it's a boy. That hurts my heart and I don't see how any woman can do it. I believe in a woman's right to make reproductive choices for herself; even if that choice includes abortion. I do not agree with any government making that choice. Whether it's anti abortion laws, or forcible abortion laws; both are unneccessary inclusion into a private life and into a private body. I'm still more incensed by the women killing their born babies. How can anyone look into that adorable face and hear that cry and...hurt that child, just because it's a girl and you can only have one. Why don't they stand up and demand to have more than one? THey out number their political leaders. Perhaps that is the problem

China's poor record of civil rights is significant. I find it appalling that we have given China preferred trade status in the world market. I am more than disappointed in our government's courting of China's favor. Nearly everything is made in China now. It took me three years to find a Christmas angel treetop ornament that WASN'T made in China. Now they are talking about the Chinese auto industry. When will we shop with our values rather than our wants? If we refused to buy products made in China until they improved their civil rights record we could change the world. Most people don't believe that they, as one person, can make a difference. But when there are enough "ones" the power grows. How many people shop at WalMart for the "values" without caring that nearly all of the products sold there are made in countries where people are severely oppressed, often working in sweat shops even as children. I refuse to put my money into the support of oppressive governments if I can avoid it.

Yes and I read that articles that China is forcing their people in abortion. And that is their method for population control.Abortion is an absolutely wrong and it is a crime of murder. And absolutely I am not favor for this. And I think the fetus have life and like us she/he have a right to see this wonderful world.

This is the result of giving a government the permission to decide the rights of women. We are doing that here, as well.
