My mother in law can't sleep either and sleeping pills don't work for her. She's tried everything even prescription meds. Warm milk or even a bath do nothing for her.
Sometimes for me, I like to fall asleep with the tv on. I set the sleep timer so the tv turns off and that's it. I try to sleep.

I once too had hard time sleeping. Turned out my lifestyle has something to do with it. I barely walk outside. According to my reseach, one reason why people can't sleep is because they were not exposed to the sun, just like me. So i started basking in early morning light for like 5 minutes and it worked! I can sleep earlier than before. Iron vitamins also do wonders. Good luck!

I also suffer from the same illness and this has been my reason why i sometimes come late in class. I told my professor that I am suffering from insomnia that i can't sleep at night. Usually, if i am still awake by 10pm, i can't sleep until 4am. perhaps, i've been used to having a textmate every dawn... but anyway, my professor told me to do some yoga and avoid drinking softdrinks co'z it also makes your nerves active which can cause you to be awake. Counting from 1 to 100 also helps.. or try reading long articles for you to get sleep...

I'm afraid that watching tv before going to bed is more difficult for you to go to sleep.Even if you would have been sleepy, dreams and nightmares go through your mind one by one. So you'd better have some milk or have a small excise, ect.

a lot of people say the best way to long-term fix insomnia, aside from meds and therapy and the such, is to remember to always treat your bed as what it is.... just and ONLY a place for sleeping. so dont read, watch tv, talk, tec. because it trains your body that when you lay down and get all snuggly, its time for your brain to relax and let you sleep. I think if you do engage in activities that stimulate your brain and force you to be alert while in bed, it trains your body to keep itself wake even when its natural response should be to sleep.

i also suffer from insomnia but am too young to be put on sleeping meds, plus i fear dependency.
its something that runs in the family for me, my gradnfather suffers from it, and has tried sleeping pills, nothing seems to work well for him either.
the only thing that seems to work
is just staying up later, much later, till your body physically cant take being awake. but it also drains you...i wouldnt recoment it, but it works for me

I've had trouble sleeping lately too and can't find anything that will help with it. I have tried to use a nyquill pill and that helped as I was having some sinus problems too. Other than that I try to play word games or something to get bored with.

I am right there with you, it is 2 am and I can't sleep and I took meds for sleeping. I am not immune to them I don't take them that much. It is just crazy this is like the 5 day in a row! Not even watching TV puts me to sleep. Oh and if I read I will finish the book because I won't be able to put it down.
