I was seven years of age when diagnosed with tonsillitis, resulting in my first introduction to the operating theatre. As I was being transported through the corridors, the nurse told me when we arrived I would be given a fairy hat.I was so excited with the thought, all fear vanished.
My next memory was waking up,their were bars around my bed,and I was shaking them while at the same time calling out"I am innocent not guilty"...Never did receive my fairy hat!Bother..Lol

I do and I dont. I was about 4-5 when we were building our house and I fell from the balcony which was about 4m high and had brain concusion (I am sure that is not the way you spell it) I dont have any memory of my life before that and hardly any during the hospital stay. I remember been in a small room with 1 bed it was a very sunny room I was siting on the bed and I was crying for my mom at one point I saw her looking at me from the little window but the nurse told me it wasnt my mum it was someone else. Than he came and did my hair (I had a very long curly hair). And that was it. But I remember my second stay when I was having my tonsils out I was about 6 and the nurse told me they were taking me to have my picture done and when I woke up I asked to see my picture :)))

Hello gandatwo,
I see you were busy today. You came up with some very interesting topics. Well, the only time in the hospital as a child was to have my tonsils removed. The only part I remember was being wheeled down the hallway looking at the people with paper hats and paper covers for their shoes. I remember inside the operating room being told to count backwards from 100 and them putting the thing over my nose and mouth to breath the either and then I was out. Before going in they promised me ice cream but when I came too my throat hurt so bad I didn't want any. Next time in was to give birth to my son. After giving birth I went to sleep and That night after getting a few hours of sleep one of the caregivers asked so when am I leaving? That was it call the Dr. I want to leave right now I've slept enough!

Ooh, I guess I am lucky not to have tonsillitis before. :o)
Depends on if you mean "stayed overnight" or just had to go to a hospital for treatment. The only memory I have when I was in nursery schoo, I believe, I was playing and laughing with my parents, and they were so cheerfully letting me swing in the air holding on to them. But unfortunately, my elbow became dislocated. So they had to rush me to ER. I just remember a young doctor coming, smiling, and popping my arm back in. It did hurt, but not for long. So I was lucky. I didn't have to stay overnight either.
First overnight stay I remember, was a frightening, but exciting time (at least exciting during the first night, as I was thrilled in a way, of being in a new place friends always told me about after breaking arms or legs). I kicked my legs in the air in bed, so lively. But I wasn't well. I got sicker by the moment. That was in 6th grade. And I ended up beign there for more than a month! Not fun!

I was 5 years old. I had open heart surgery to fix a hole in my heart, a broken down valve and one valve that wasn't there. I was supposed to wait until I was 7 to have the surgery but, they didn't think I would live till 7, or maybe not even 6 more months.

I was senseless for 2 days. after taht when i regained consciousness initially i could not understand what happened to me.But it was painful as i underwent surgeries to mend my injuries.

I have only been in the hospital for my four childbirths. I remember each as if it were yesterday. EAch of the four experiences was unique and had a wonderful, happy ending of a perfect child. I only stayed overnight each time and went home with my new bundle of joy the next day. So that is 4 nights in the hospital in my 51 years! Not bad if I say so myself! Now, I have been in hospitals WORKING as a nurse on so many days that I couldn't begin to count! Ha!

that's so funny, friend! i had been to the hospital for the first time when i was four years old. i fell on the stairs and cut my chin (boys will be boys!). they had to stitch it. an elderly doctor tried to pacify me with chocolates, but i couldn't eat...and i was worried about my blood-stained shirt which they took off. i thought they were thugs who stole my valuable possessions and were going to kill me with their knives and scissors and keep me in one of those big freezers. i must have fainted after a hearty fight, and woke up only to see a pleasant addition of white dressing on my chin - which i could show off to my kindergarten friends :)

Oh do I remember? Like a lot of people here I was put in hospital because of bad tonsillitis. Back in those days I was being raised without power no money and we were straight from the sticks. The one thing I have always hated as a child was poridge and no matter wahat I was raised to eat what was put on the table. When I was admitted a nurse did show me where the toilet was and she told me if I had to go pee then this is where I do it. Well I thought that was pretty good stuff because we never had running water and we had to go to the outhouse which got very cold in winter. Well when my poridge came I was happy to not be hungry but I had to get rid of it so I dumped it in the toilet then wondered what I'd say when the nurse seen something funny in the toilet. I was nervous and while standing in front of the toilet I noticed a lever on the side and I wondered what it was and of course when I pushed on it the toilet began to flush and I nearly had a nervous breakdown because I thought I broke the potty. I went running for help crying wanting to go home, Oh what a nightmare. As if that wasn't enough in those days they used ether to put you to sleep which was like a rubber sheet they held over your face no matter how hard you tried to fight it off and vomit after till you nearly die. Thank God things are different now!!!

Later my life till now was in hospitals I used to faint even got admitted for one day when I see blood till my college days later I picked up now. Still few accidents too took to hospital beds. I would like to avoid hospital still twice in a month average I go to hospital with my parents or any other cases.

my first time in a hospital was when I gave birth to my little girl just over 4 years ago, I can remeber the smell when I walked into the delivery ward as it was clean and that made me feel safe.
After that memory all I can remember was being petrafied as I was about to give birth and all I could hear was another woman next door to me screaming the hospital down, I couldnt belive it I wanted to go home. I was not scared of giving birth because lets face it, no one in their right mind would think it was a walk in the park but at the same time I may have not been scared but I also did not want to stick around to listen to someone who sounded like they were being tourtured.
I think soundproofing the rooms would be a great way of keeping new mums nice and calm........

Don't remember. My mother used to tell me that I was weeping all the time. This was during my introduction to this great world and if I was able to speak, I would have said ' good luck mom dad '

as a sickly child i was brought to the hospital a few times, but i wasn't confined and would be sent home with medications after a few hours. i also didnt have my tonsils removed even if it was advised before. i was too young then to remember most of my hospital experiences so i can't tell you about those.
i think my first real and memorable hospital expereince is when i gave birth to my son. the labor pains was unforgetable, it was such a whirl... i just woke up after the delivery with much memory of what happened in the delivery room. i stayed in the hospital for 3 days and just saw my baby when i fetch him from the nursery when we were about to go home.

I remember that I too was 7 with tonsillitis and I was promised ice cream, but never got jello instead.. But when I woke up, it was not good.
My throat hurt and so I was crying for my Mom and this stupid man, whoever it was in the recovery room, told me that I will not see my Mom until I stopped crying..
What a nightmare.. Even with a special children's hospital today, I would never trust anyone with my kids...
