Do you watch soap operas?

I used to but haven't in close to 10 years now. I watched Young and the Restless since I was a kid (my mom watched it) and then for many years I watched Guiding Light and As the world Turns. Oh, and I guess they stuck Bold and the Beautiful in there, too. I remember as a kid my mom would watch game shows all morning and soaps all afternoon...lol. DO many people still do that? Well, I guess the game shows have their own channel now and talk shows have replaced them but I am mostly interested the number of soap watchers.

Yes I watch the UK soap operas, some I follow avidly!! But the storylines...well..omg...they are sooo farfetched!!! The latest plot in Eastenders is that a wife and her lover are going to `do away with` her hubby and bury him in the wood..I think they need to make them a wee bit more realistic....lol..on second thoughts.....lolol

Unfortunately, that isn't all that far fetched from real life... Thanks for responding. :)

I do watch soap operas when I was younger. Especially love stories. But now, since i'm grown-up it irritates me watching those operas because i feel bad. I hate it also when soap operas are long i mean, the stories twist, it seems that it will not last and the story twist again and again... My mom watches soap operas so we kinda bond with these stories.

Soaps have their own cable channel too. It is Soap Net.They air all the ABC soaps and Young and the Restless at night so you can see what you missed that day. And in the morning and afternoon, they air older soaps like Dallas, Melrose Place, and Ryan's Hope. I used to watch all the soaps you mentioned and Days of Our Lives , and Another World and Texas back in the day. I stopped because of storylines I hated. It has been a very long time since I have seen any of the Daytime soaps.I stopped watching them and started watching the Mexican Telenovellas, Spanish speaking soaps. They were fun to watch because I didn't know that much Spanish but now I know enough Spanish to follow them.

Yes- I have seen that channel now that you mention it. That's funny about the spanish ones. My daughter had a friend over who is half Puerto Rican and we were watching George Lopez...something funny happened and he responded in spanish and english and she laughing before the rest of us because she understood what he said first (in Spanish) we thought it was so cool that she could understand it...lol. (BTW, we hit rewind and had her translate what he'd said and it wasn't the exact same thing he said in english, and it was funnier...lol.) I can decipher words here and there in Spanish and French...but I am not well rehearsed in either - especially vocally.

With all the soaps I have seen , I can understand spoken Spanish if the speaker is from Mexico better than I can speak it.I say Mexican Spanish because I once heard Antonio Banderas speak Spanish, he is from Spain, and I couldn't understand him at all.His Spanish was faster and more slurred together.

i remember my mom doing the same thing.lol i would watch them with her all the time, after i got older and had a life i didn't until i had my first son and stayed home to be with him. i started watching them again and yeah its funny cuz after all that time it didn't take much to catch up after years and years of not watching them. i stopped watching them again for about a 3 years cuz we moved and didn't have cable but now that i am back home and have cable i have been watching again. i really don't watch them like i used to but i do make sure i see guiding light everyday and if i miss it i watch it later on cbs.com. the others i watch if i get the time to sit but that don't happen often.

I would turn on Y&R every once in a while, or I will read the headlines on the mags at the checkout counter...lol. And, you are right- it is amazing how much of it it still the same old thing and you can get (and stay) caught up in a matter of minutes for the most part. I even started reading the info on the sattelite to stay updated...haha...but now I have direct tv and their "info" is the pits on all their shows.

I used to be addicted to a few of them, but I got my self out of that habit, it was not an easy one to break - let me tell you.... but it occurred to me that I was partaking in gossip - virtual gossip anyhow and finding it entertaining... that really disturbed me.

I used to watch Days of our Lives but myLot is better than any soap opera I have ever seen. Passions used to be funny but they took it off cable and made it available to direct tv customers only. I don't really have time for daytime TV so I don't think I am missing too much.

Guilty as charged, I am a Soapie. My favourite Soap Opera is Bold and the Beautiful, I have been watching it for 13 years, I first started watching it when I was just 16 years old. I used to watch it everyday, however now I am okay if i miss a few episodes, I survive, lol. I also like to watch Home and Away. So that is one hour a day of Soapies for me. Game shows are good too, like Deal or No Deal, would love to go on there and win $200 000.

I am a big Days of Our Lives fan. I watched it growing up with my mom. I quit while I was working except on holidays. Then I might catch an episode. When I quit work about 6 yrs. ago I started watching it again.

I, like you, haven't watched a soap opera in years. I used to like Guiding Light, As the world Turns and Young and the Restless. We used to watch them occasionally with my mom when we were kids. I don't really care for game shows anymore either though they have a load of them now especially during primetime.

I used to watch All My Children. My mom only had one TV when I was growing up and I started watching it with her when I was a teenager. Though it only lasted a year or 2. I haven't watched soaps since, though my mother-in-law tried to get me to watch The Old and the Tired...oops, I mean The Young and the Restless LOL, but I wasn't interested as soaps tend to repeat their storyline and it gets old quick, at least for me anyway.

I live in the UK, and so we have different kinds of soaps here, although I did used to love the young and the restless when it was screened here! Oh and the bold and the beautiful! I used to be a proper soap addict, especially when I only had one child. But now I have got four I just do not get the time to sit and watch them. By the time I have got the 3 youngest to bed most of them have finished! But I do still watch them when I get chance.

I watch General Hospital. My mom used to watch it when I was a kid. Like you, game shows in the am, the ABC soaps in the after noon. So, I pretty much grew up with GH. I still watch it, although I think that it is not so much GH anymore as it is The Sonny Show. LOL! I just hate that character and would love to see his demise on the show!

My mom used to do the same thing lol. I am 29 years old but when I was younger I used to love to watch Days Of Our Lives because mom used to watch it and my sisters and I got into it. Those were the days with Jack and Jennifer and Patch and Kayla. Those were the best years. Today it's downright retarded, period. However, I do watch General Hospital and I think that one is the only one these days worth watching and which has not stooped to the level that Days and other soaps have to get good ratings....
