I have always...always scrubbed my floors on my hands and knees to make sure I got them shiny clean. But my knees are getting bad and today I am going out to buy myself a mop for washing the floors. My daughter in law uses the swiffer..but I am leaning towards something that uses water and a cleanser. Do you have a favorite type or brand that you can suggest to me? Thanks ahead of time!

I also wanted to buy another map, the one that I am using now is the traditional and it is really hard to use. I have to bend over to squeeze the mop and it disgust me to touch the dirty mop head. I do not like sponge mao either as they are useless in absorbing liquid. I saw magic mop on TV the other day and I quite like it. Here are the features : 1. It can be used either for dry-dusting or wet mopping 2. Can go to hard to reach areas like under the furniture because of its swivel handle and it is also extendable 3. It has a large head for wider coverage 4. You don't need bucket of water to clean , just wet the mop head once and your ready to go. 5. It also works as a scrubber to scrub heel marks on the floor.

I've heard the swiffer also is great. Thats what my mother in law uses and she is very picky and paticular when it comes to cleaning. But I know what you mean about the hand and knee thing. My kitchen isnt all that big, so its just easier to get down on my knees and do it. I hate mopping! I really hate mops so thats another reason I do the knee thing! I hope you like the swiffer!

I used to do the hands and knees as well - but I am such a woos to knee pain anymore.. I started using a mop (It does not do nearly as well for the floor or my waist) I prefer a plain old cotton rag mop myself... but if I had wood floors I would use one of those swifters.

you are so kind to ask, Jillhill... The cast is looking pretty dingy these days - but I am getting used to it - my other foot though has been going numb on my - I think I am putting too much pressure on it by compensating and keeping my balance.

I use the swiffer also. I like the smell and I like that I'm not just throwing dirty water all over the floors. My house though needs to be mopped every other day and buying the cleaner can get a bit pricey so at times I take a soapy rag and rub my floors standing on the rag. I think this makes it cleaner b/c I can really scrub it with my foot on a towel.

I like sponge mops - I think they are easier to scrub with than the rag mops. My husband likes rag mops - he thinks they clean better - but then again he mops his garage like twice a year and thats it- he isnt using it weekly. I don't like the swiffer because I go through a ton of the little pads just cleaning my floor once (2 little kids and 2 big dogs make a very dirty floor). I do have to get down on my hands and knees and clean the corners and edges though - and every couple months I do the whole floor.

Hi, just thought I'd rejuvenate this discussion for you. You can find it on a list of discussions I'm compiling and am going to make a discussion about. In any case, I know the swiffer mops look cool, but I like the old fashion looking ones the best myself, seems as if they'd get cleaner. There's the ones that have thicker strands, and then those that have thinner strands. Then again nothing beats hands, knees and elbow grease does it? I don't clean floors as my fiance and I live with his parents, but when I do, it'd probably be hands and knees if not a quick mop over. Not sure though.

Oh yes I was thinking of those when I responded, I think I glanced and saw someone else suggest it as well? In any case those do look nifty and a sponge absorbency would be better. My mother in law has one like that that she uses it. Pine Sol, I've always heard cleans great, and I think I've mopped with it before, it has a nice smell too. Although soft scrub smells okay as well.

I use the swifer and I love it. You dont have the hassel of having a dirty mop around ever. Plus it does clean pretty good.

I am sorry but I dont no what a good brand would be. I heard that the swiffer is a good one to use.

I also use the Swifter because it doesn't use soap and water. My new kitchen flooring requires that water not soak it up. I love the swifter but sometimes use two of them to get the job done. The first one gets all of the dirt up and the second one makes sure that I got everything clean. I do it only because the floor salesman told me what works the best for my type of flooring.

I've used the Swiffer before and it is ok. It doesn't get the floor as clean as I like though and I go through so many of those attachment things.
I tend to clean mine on my hands and knees too. Though, that twisty mop in the first post is starting to sound like a good idea!

I have never found one brand to be better than another, but I prefer a sponge mop to a rag one. I think what is more important is the cleaner you use and how often you do it. I keep a swiffer handy to clean up spills between moppings, since letting something sit makes it harder to clean. Using a good cleaner with a cheap mop is better than spending a lot on a mop, in my opinion.

Oh I just use a good old fashioned mop and bucket but like you I find it better sometimes to get down on my hands and knees and scrub. I usually buy the cheapest mop head I can find in Tesco, nothing special but it does the job. Ellie :D

I have done the hands and knees thing, too. Since they came out I have used the Swiffer Wetjet.
I also have a Libman Wonder Mop http://www.libman.com/index.aspx?src=PDI&ct=2&pid=114 that has a wringer right on it, and can go into the washer. I do like that one alot. I just started using the wetjet more because it is so easy.
But my flooring is new (laminate and vinyl) and the guy that sold it to us said to use 1) Windex on the vinyl and laminate or 2) Armstrong Once and Done on the vinyl. I have been using the Windex because I already had it and I still use the wetjet I just took the swiffer cleaning bottle off. I spray the windex on and mop. I do not like using the windex on the vinyl, though, I don't feel it stays clean as long as it should, so I will be getting the Armstrong stuff. I will probably go back to using the wonder mop when I get the new cleaner.

My mother always called me a slob. I am neat and my house is clean - it has white tiles the whole way through - but I have never gone on my hands and kneees to clean the floors. never. and if I wnet dowen now on my hands and knees then I do not think that I would be able to get up without help from someone.lol. I use a regular mop that is squeezed out. I clean the floors with vinegar and water - it's cheap and it works! Blessings

I have a squeezee mop that I am using now. I often do get down on my hands and kness because it just really gets the floor cleaner. I also use the swifter with pads. I just buy the pads at the dollar store. They work really great and leave everything smelling fresh and clean.

Well.. before i had kids, and i didnt' care just how clean the floor was as long as it wasn't sticky... i used a regular mop and soap in a bucket.. but really.. they just mostly push the dirt around, and the mop gets stinky.. i do it on my hands and knees.. the area in the kitchen and bathroom are not that large where we live so its not so bad. however.. if i was to get one of those things....... i'm not sure whichone i would get either, but i know it wouldnt be a mop and bucket. STINKY.

I used to scrub mine on hands and knees too - that is the way my mother had me do it for chores when growing up and yes they get the cleanest when you do - not only because you can get into every knuck and cranny but because you are up close and personal and can see what is on the floor. A previously injured knee cap and subsequent arthritis had me turning to the mop as well... I prefer the cotton strand mop... old fashioned but does a good job and you can throw it into the wash when needed.
