Best Piece of Kitchen Equipment

March 28, 2008 5:24am CST
What is the best piece of kitchen equipment you have ever bought and the one you could not live without? I have two pieces of kitchen equipment which have been worth every penny spent on purchasing them The first is my trusty breadmaking machine. I use this most days and make a batch of fresh bread, in fact i do not buy bread anymore at the shops. The other piece is my expresso coffee machine as I am quite addicted to cappucino coffee and have one cup every morning.

hey austinbell! The best piece of kitchen equipment would be my pot and the stirrer(whatever you call it!lol). The truth is I don't cook that much but when I do,all I need is my pot and anything to scoop up my food.

there is always something in the kitchen you cannot live without even if you do not do much cookery. I do find it very interesting to hear other peoples thoughts and ideas

I guess mine is quite common. I don't want to live without my microwave. You'd think that with my 'devotion' to it I'd keep it a little cleaner, but when I got it out of my parent's garage, it appeared someone had used it while I had not been using it. Something about other people's filth. Oh well, at least I keep the rotating glass part clean.

I don't use my microwave oven very much at all only for warming things up in so I suppose I could live without it

That is what I use mine for, and I always make sure I have leftovers to use for the next day. So usually the microwave comes in handy. I'm not much for microwave meals and such, just for warming up the previous night's dinner.

I don't buy microwave meals either as we don't like them that much. They are useful in an emergency

Those are two pieces of kitchen equipment that I wish I had. But I guess I would say mine would be a quesedea (?spelling)maker and a george forman grill. I'm not home much anyway so therefore don't have much time to cook either. Maybe one day I can enjoy a breadmaking machine and a cappucino maker!

It is where you use two tortillas and put whatever ingredients in between them and it cooks it all at one time without having to flip it over.

Hi,there, dear austinbell, As for me I think the best kitchen equipment should be the juicer as I like drinking all kinds of juice,What makes this equipment don't use any electricity and meanwhile don't spent so much money on purchasing it. For other equipments I don't often use a lot due to the reason that my parents will use that frequently to prepare us a delicious meal... Molly;-)
29 Mar 08
I don't use my juicer at all now, used it a couple of times when I bought it but it was such a pain to lean up afterwards I stop using it

There are 2 things that I have bought for my kitchen that I couldn't live without: My Kitchenaid chopper, it chops everything in a flash. It's like a mini food processor. The other is my Kicthenaid professional Stand Mixer...I have made ice cream, mixed meat loaf, made pasta, cakes. You name it that thing does it. It's awesome!
30 Mar 08
thanks for the info skinnychick I think I might buy one

My fridge, thats the most important kitchen appliance I have, I also have a bread machine and like that alot. I don't use it that often. I couldn't live without the fridge.
29 Mar 08
When I think about it there are lots of kit in my kitchen I would not like to be without and a fridge is one of them. When I was first married I did not have one as money was short and it took months to save up for one. My husband got a tax rebate that went towards it

I live my Kitchen Aid Mixer. I lived without it for many years but I dont know how I did it. I feel like I can do so much more in the kitchen since I got this. I can bake bread and it takes all the work out of the kneading process for me. I love it love it love it.
29 Mar 08
Once you like a particular piece of kit you often wondered how on earth did I manage without. I suppose that we never did as much in the kitchen without it

Out of the large items in my kitchen I would not want to be without my fridge because it keeps my food like vegetables and my drinks cool. Out the smaller items in my fridge I would not want to be without my micro wave because it offers me speed and convenience. I could not be happy without a kettle in my kitchen because I need much boiling water in my daily life. When I lived in my tiny cottage that I moved out of in 2005 I had a very small kitchen. I chose not to have a cooker but just a hob instead. I had room for an under the counter fridge and it had an ice box at the top of it. There was room for a washing machine but there wasn't room for a dryer. When I moved house I got a bigger kitchen so I have now got a cocker, a fridge freezer, a washing machine and a tumble dryer.

thanks for your comment. Your cottage sounds nice very cosy but I bet you are glad to have a bigger kitchen for your appliances. they all make our lives alot easier

Mine would be my smoothie maker. It has a spout that will dispense like a tea jug. I have used it everyday for the past few weeks as a blender to make milkshakes. I have never used a bread machine before. I make bread every 3-5 days and just put it in the oven. And make it by hand.
29 Mar 08
In the past I made bread the good old fashioned way but have certainly taken to my machine it is much easier. I don't think I would use a smoothie maker, I have a juicer and I never use it

my new microwave I just love it as my old one conked out on us and I can do a lot of cooking in it for just one person and myh set of sharp kitchen knives which I use all the time to chop up all the veggies I am supposed to eat.
29 Mar 08
It is lovely when you get a new item in your kitchen. I bought myself two very good knives from a cook shop in Warwick years ago and they are still going strong. it is always worth while buying good kitchen knives as they will last you a lifetime, it makes your eyes water when you have to hand over the cash though

Best piece for me would be the ice cream maker I bought out of my own money at a thrift store, it is excellent condition and I only paid 4 bucks for that! I'm so happy when I got that, and since then, started out making ice cream on my own. And the kitchen appliance I can't live without would be the rice cooker! I can't live a week without eating rice, that's why. And cooking it in a rice cooker makes the best rice, than cooking it in a pan or pot. I like my breadmaker too, but didn't cook any breads lately, i think it's so neat to have this kitchen appliances with me, makes work easier and you get to save money too!
28 Mar 08
I have never tried a rice cooker I always cook rice in a pan of water. I nearly bought an ice cream maker when my dad was alive he adored his ice cream, I do not eat it at all makes my teeth on edge

Can I include the washing machine as that's in the kitchen and I class that as kitchen equipment! I love my washing machine and it saves me so much time, hassle and it makes my life so much simpler and less stressful, I have so much washing to do and to take it down to the laundry would be so much inconvenience and time consuming. I truly have a love for my washing machine it's one of the best inventions for households and it's my favourite machine in the whole house!
28 Mar 08
of course you can include your washing machine I like my washing machine but I could live without it whereas my bread making machine is another matter

I couldn't live without my coffee pot. Every morning it waits for me to plug it in and get it going. This is an older pot but still works well. The other piece of equipment I couldn't live without is a microwave oven. I heat so many leftovers and eat for lunch or dinner. It makes my life alot easier.

I don't really have anything though, I live very simply with just the basics.

That is just like when I got married and money was in such short supply that we managed without much at all. Lots of family gave us bits and pieces to make life a bit easier

Are you in my kitchen?? lol I love my bread machine and espresso machine (which will not be used this morning as I am out of syrup and the teeny town I live near had none to be found so I guess I spend $4 on one when I get to (the bigger) town this morning. sigh) I don't remember how I came to own my first bread machine (I have two) but I think it was a gift. The espresso machine was a found treasure at a thrift store and cost only half what it would new. While it i snot a cheapo one (I burn those out in about a month...lol) it is not a *really* good one and will be replaced at some point. Anyway, back to your question. I think the best piece of equipment I have ever spent money on for the kitchen is my food processor. I used Christmas money one year and felt I was "splurging" buying that...but I have no idea how I did any of that before I got the processor!! I love it! (And I got a great deal on it at Amazon- woohoo!)
28 Mar 08
its a small world isn't it, I also have two bread machines and my expresso machine was bought half price in a very good end of year sale a couple of years back. I also burn out the cheaper kind of expresso machine, we had several and kept having to take them back in the end the shop gave us our money back. I think they got fed up with us always going back.
