Storage of Cds and DVds

I have the old plastic units with the slots that you put one on top of the other that I use to store my Cds and Dvds. But I found that with the slim cases and the TV box sets, plus the high definition DVds being between just a little larger than the regular Cds, that having those plastic units was not practical. I like having them around all the time and I cannot see keeping them in my dining room cabinet on the bottom shelf so I bought several of those plastic crate kinds at Staples, since the Cd and DVd companies have not invented a metal crate kind for various Cds holds of regular and slim case nor for various DVds in Tv sets, high definition or regular.
So how do you store your CDs and
DVd collections?

Funny you should ask that. i will be moving into a 1 bedroom apt this summer and have collected alot of movie/TV series DVD sets (I watch the sales and always wait for a low price!) but I will probalby just cut my cable to local channels and nothing else, so I can see that I will want my sets and movies out more in the open for easy access, so I am looking for inexpensive, but space saving ways to do this. Right now they are all in plastic tubs that slide under my bed and it is really a pain to get to them and put them in and out and all. So I will be watching this discussion ..I need ideas too!

The trouble is that they changed the Cd cases from regular jewel box to thin and the DVDs from tall, to several in one set, so those slotty DVd and CDs no longer work. I got the plastic mesh with the triangle design on top, because they were cheap, but would rather have a regular storage unit.

Glad you brought that up. i hadn't thought about that. My CD's are in those decorative photo boxes and that works just great. But my DVD's are the problem and I forgot that they are in the taller boxes so my measurments I had in mind wouldn't have accepted them! I am so glad you mentioned that before I go next week to look for something! I'd a bought for CD's!!

I guess they have not invented a size for the Blu-Ray and Hi-def dvds yet as there are not that many of them. Keeping them in the cases is all right, but what happens when they start making Tv shows on them, like Season One of Whatever? Then they need a box to accommodate that.

We have cd and dvd cases but since we don't have that many, they sit on a book shelf under our tv.

I have my dvds and cds in those plastic mesh cases. My husband says they are not that good,(the case, not the dvds and cds), but with the regular dvd and cd storage units being unable to accommodate those Tv Dvd boxes and those Cd sets, we have to have them. I would rather they be on a special unit, as I am forever rearranging them.

Believe it or not I store all my cds and dvds in my wardrobe! I don't keep clothes in my wardrobe, weird I know, the wardrobe is too small for them so I hang them around the room or fold them up. Anyhow in my wardrobe there are compartments which are just ideal for storing cds and dvds, I used to keep videos in there as well. That way they don't gather dust and they are out the way. I have quite a few shelves so I can file them away according to their genre.

That is weird, but we have a wardrobe down in the basement and I put our books down there plus our portable stereo Cd player. We have Vhs in our dining room cabinet in the shelf below where I keep the best china, and we keep our cds and vds in those mesh crate boxes because we want to see what to watch and besides there is nothing there that one does not need to hide/

I have 2 large tall bookcases in my living room ,where i keep books,cd's vhs's and tapes..These bookcases are tall up to the ceiling and i have plenty of space to keep them all....my bookcases are about 4 feet wide and up to the ceiling, they are real nice,my son built them for me...

That is a real good idea. I wish that someone would build bookcases for me, but my brother-in-law is way out in Prince Edward Island and the friend's son who could do that is also not living in the city anymore. I doubt that my husband could do it. But I do have those mesh plastic crates and they work great. I just bought some new ones recently so I do not have to worry about the cds and dvds piled on the floor or leaning against the lamp table.

I have mine lined up neatly behind the doors of my tv stand. All my vhs, dvds, and cds are there in order. Well, till my daughter decides she wants to watch something other than tv, then she does a major rearrange on me. Thankfully, I don't watch my movies much or I'd be having a fit.

I usually just put my dvds and everything like that either in the little part on the bottom of my desk or either try and put it in the entertainment center because I don't really have alot of cds because I always just download certain songs off of the internet and just leave them on my media player...that is just what i do and usually I just watch the movies when they first come out or something like that...and then I don't buy the dvd unless I just really want to see it...so I usually don't have that much to try and store...

We used to just watch the movies on tv and wait for the reruns, but it seemed that every time a certain movie came out, I wanted to watch it, and it was the same with my husband. Most of the time it was for Christmas, and Birthday presents, but now it is Fathers Day and Anniveraries. Now there is that Blu-Ray winning and we have a hd player. Oh guess what? We had Beta.

I bought the plastic crates for my dvds and cds. We have a lot of sets, and for some reason, we want them close to the Tv and the cd player, but that is attached to the Tv so I guess the cds are for the car and I have many converted to play on my hard drive. I want to be able to get and see what I got, because I am the type of person who will buy a new Dvd or Cd even if we got it already because I do not know if I already bought it.

I only have a few DVDs so I use a small clear plastic container. For my CDs, I have a wooden cabinet with slots.

We got those Cds special boxes so the slots do not fit them. And we gradually collected Dvds, a couple every Christmas as gifts, and for birthday presents. It sort of adds up. I got those plastic mesh boxes that snap together. I find it easier since you do not have to worry about separating those Tv Dvd sets and putting them in separate Dvd boxes that you have to buy. And I can see what we got.

Great. The important thing is that you can find the cd or dvd that you are looking for.

I used to have an entertainment center that had a spot with the little plastic dividers for CDs but there weren't enough and were always falling down on each other. I've just gone to putting them on a regular shelf just like books - they stay put and it's easier for me to see what is where.

We have a bookcase, but it has so many books there is no room for Cds and Dvds. We have a case underneath our small table for the Vhs and we have the other vhs in the dining room cabinet. I also bought some of those plastic mesh put together boxes that makes it easier for us to keep our Tv Dvd collections and our Cd collections easier.

Hello! I store them in CD or DVD towers. I have a lot of extra corner space so they are very nice for me. I have so many that I was wondering if we've thought about a CD cabinet or something. I have over 300 CDs so I'm not always sure if I can buy lots of CD towers for them, you know? Have a wonderful day.

That is why I find those plastic crates so much easier. I can store Dvds, and those Tv Dvd sets in the Dvd sized ones and I can store the Cd special sets in the Cd sets. I wish there were cabinets that allowed this, because in the case of special Cd collecions and the DVd collections, you have to put each separate cd in the large jewel boxes and the Dvds you have to put in the separate Dvd boxes to fit.

If we had a wide screen monitor, I would watch the movies on the computer, but since I am writing on myLot, I have my dvds and cds on those grated plastic cases so we can see what we want to watch. It makes it easier.

CDs my husband bought towers for them. I think now that he has a workshop, he will build more since we need some.
Dvds are in bookcases. I think he'll probably build some of them, too.

My CD's are in those zipper cases. My dvds are in a dvd rack
(if thats what they are called.). Some of my dvds wouldn't fit in the one rack so I waited until I got another one. I don't have any high definition ones. It was just the way the dvd cases were made.

I have those mesh plastic boxes for both my Dvds and my cds, because they are big enough for the DVd Tv sets. For the regular boxes or slots you have to put the Dvd in a regular Dvd case because with the part of the box on top and the bottom, it does not fit. I also have a place under the china cabinet for my Vhs and I am gradually replacing them with the DVds. The trouble with the mesh cases is you have to snap them very tight to make them stay.

music cds i take out of the jewel cases and store in a leather "binder" with the front cover. The jewel cases i pass on to other people that want to store them.
DVD's well depending on where or how i got them depends on how i store them. Garage sale dvds i will store in a binder. I've also been given back up copies of dvds which i store in the binder as well. Original dvds i dont have many of so they all fit on the 2 foot shelf under my tv with room to spare. I'm honestly more likely to rent a dvd watch it and return it rather than storing dvds i may not ever watch again.

My husband told me that those plastic pockets that you store cds in is not that good, that it is better to put them in a jewel case, but we use the thin ones so we can get more in them. I keep the Dvds in the original cases after taking off the outer box. But the tv dvds I keep in the same boxes and everything goes on those plastic mesh cases you can get at Staples. We usually decide to buy a dvd when one or more of us is always watching the show on tv when it comes on. If it does not come on, we will rent the dvd and if it is any good, I will consider maybe buying it, but mostly I do not because many of the new ones are not worth keeping. We eventually get around to watching the movies, when there is nothing else on and one time when I had a bad cold or the flu, I was watching the whole first and second season of Stargate.

I keep mine in the jewel cases, because they are safer and it is easier for me to see what they are and they stack besides each other so nicely. I will have to get another case soon, as I will be ordering some more DVDS.

i have heard the slip cases arent really good for them as well But I find I'm more likely to use the movies/cds etc from the case than i am to flip through jewel cases. I got rid of most of my jewel cases because they took up too much space in my house.

We use the cd/dvd binders that you can buy almost anywhere. You can easily fit 100 or 125 cd/dvd in a binder...but they should come with wheels they do get heavy.

I heard those plastic cases that you put the dvds and cds in are not that good. If you keep the dvds and cds in their original jewel cases, then that works, but you will not be able to store that many , but at least they will not scratch. I find that putting them in boxes or crates works very well.

We have alot of dvds and we have one of those standing shelves and it is full. We are going to have to start thinking about another place to put them. Unless since we are getting my daughter a tv we will put all her movies in her room with her. I think she has more then we do anyway. I love disney movies. We don't have too many cds except for pc software which we have to store on the same shelf.

I have a place for my computer cds, but it is hard to get with it because we have the router and the internet box in front of that. I got some of those plastic mesh boxes for the cds and the dvds. I find that is easier because then we can watch the movies or the tv shows on dvds when we have free time and that is not that often. I have to remind my husband that he does not have to watch the show with the commercials on tv when we already have the dvd. I really should make a list and put it right with them.

I have an album that I put my DVD's in. I take them out of the cases and put them in the album. It takes up way less room, and easily carried from room to room.

I do not like those plastic inserts because they are not as good as the jewel cases or the cases that the Dvds came in. I also like mine where I can see them. It makes it easier for someone like me who if I do not know if I got one, will buy it again. You would not guess that we got a vhs of Apollo 13 and because I could not find it, I bought a new one. At least we do not have a dvd of it yet. At lest, I don't think so.

I bought a whole lot of new shelving on ebay and they are great for DVD's ! My CD's are still in storage, so don't have to worry about them at the moment. Just wish I had more variety in music though! lol.

I like those plastic crate kinds, but my husband told me they do not make them correctly because you have to press hard to put them together. Now I have enough for all my dvds, and cds. That means I have to order those four tv dvds I wanted to get and start all over again, not to mention get rid of my vhs and get the dvd versions of them.

i used plastic storage that can accommodate up to 50 disc. i used this to minimize the space in my room because i live in a small house that need to minimized all things inside and it helps. i love collecting movies and because of that i open my video shop so that i can collect all movie release nowadays.

We used to use those plastic storage cases, the ones with the envelopes and that worked all right until my husband told it was better to put them in those thin jewel cases. I have those plastic crates in the living room but guess that would not work with you being in a small house and all that.

We have those Tv Dvd sets, the ones where there are two dvds overlapping each other, and two on the side, so I got those plastic grated boxes and that way we can keep them in the sets. They have not invented ones for the hd or blueray sizes yet that are too big for the Cds and too small for toe Dvd cases. At least the HD and the Blueray are the same size. We have not go any blueray, because we would have to get a blueray player
