i never tried grilling on gas, and i want to know the difference. i watched a lot of cooking shows that do some grilling and most of them use gas for grilling. i want also to have or to buy one of those gas for grilling but i want to know the difference between grilling on gas and grilling on charcoal. does it taste the same? is it faster to grill on gas or just the same?

I prefer to grill on gas, but my husband prefers charcoal. I have never used charcoal but I think it is a lot more work. With gas or propane you just turn it on and it's ready to go. It is so convenient and clean tasting. I love grilling on my propane grill! :D

well thats nice, you can get the best of both worlds. eating something grilled on charcoal and grilled in something that is grilled on gas. you post your view about gas grilling very well and thanks a lot for that

I always use my gas grill. I havent had anything on a charcoal grill for years. I know some people swear by charcoal and would never use gas, but the taste of something grilled on a charcoal grill is not worth the problem of dealing with the charcoal.

you have a good point and you dont have to wait that long for grilling on charcoal needs to be started earlier for it eats more time than grilling on gas. thanks for the input there snowy. hi 5

i like how you said that "if you don't use charcoal it kind of defeats the purpose of a good grilling" and that is one of the good points that i have here at this discussion. thanks for that

I prefer grilling on charcoal. In my own opinion, it's tastier that way. It brings out the natural way. But just don't overcook it. It would definitely not taste good!! ;)

that is the reason why i want to buy a gas grill for the convinience and less smoke. my wife has asthma but we both love barbeque. thats the reason why i started this discussion to help me decide. thanks a lot for the response

I use gas. You can get grilling chips that will flavor the food. There are hickory chips that give the food a nice flavor. You can get chips marinated in sherry, or you can sprinkle the hot lava rocks with lemon or orange peels for a citrusy flavor. I prefer the gas because I never seem to get the right amount of charcoal to finish all of the food.

Grilling with gas can be a lot faster. You don't have to worry about taking the time to light the coals and wait for them to heat up. You pretty much light the gas and go. It's also a lot cleaner in that you don't have to clean up the ashes that the coals can leave behind.
That being said, gas doesn't taste the same to me as charcoal does. I prefer an all natural carcoal that is made from wood. This gives the food a really nice smoky and sometimes woody flavor. Yes, it means that things can take a bit longer and the coal I like can be hard to find...but I really think that it is worth it.

I don't use either. I have a Traeger grill that you use pellets to cook with. I will never use a gas or charcoal grill again after tasting food that comes off of a Trager grill. We use pellets that are flavored like mesqutie. I need to fire up the grill it sounds good.

We used to have a propane grill. It was a lot faster to get it up and running when we wanted to grill something. With coals, we have to wait a while for them to be ready and sometimes it's a pain to keep them going at first. So maybe the advantage of gas is mainly its convenience.
When our propane grill broke, we used a little charcoal one for a while and I couldn't believe the difference in the taste of our food. The charcoal grilling gave it a smokier and more flavorful taste. When we replace the grill, I think I'll stick with a charcoal one or maybe just build a nice firepit.

I never tried using gas grilling myself, but i prefer charcoal grilled because it tastes better, maybe because of the charcoal and the smoke makes the flavour unique and delicious. Another thing is that charcoal grilling a lot less expensive than gas grilling.

We used to use charcoal, but now we have a gas grill. It is a lot easier to use that is for sure. We still have some pieces of charcoal in the gas grill though. I really enjoy grilling.

It is faster too cook on gas because you dont have to wait for the coals to heat up but for me personally I prefer to cook with coal. I just think it tasts better to me. My husband wants to buy a gas grill and I keep stoping him cause it is expensive where charcoal is not as expensive.

i too want to buy a gas grill but i am still taking the survey. my wife has asthma and when we are trying to wait for the coal to heat it gives a lot of smoke. i just want to buy a gas grill to lessen the smoke but if the taste of the barbeque will be affected with the taste then i will not buy a gas grill.

It is charcoal that I still use, I like outdoor cooking and I enjoy doing that whenever possible.
I never really tried using gas when doing this, I can't find any thrill and excitement in it.
Sometimes, I just light it up then place the food that I want to grill on top. As I could still remember, me and my uncles did this whenever there are fresh fish harvested on a nearby fishpond. It was late night and we are still drinking, one of my uncle lit up some coconut husks and some of their dried shells then placed the fish on top of the ember. One of the memorable outdoor experiences I have ever had, I missed doing that too.

i love outdoor cooking too. when my wife and i are still dating we most likely to go on dates at a park or at a swimming resort and cook barbeque. my wife loves all kinds of food that is cooked on the grill. she is good on marinating too. now that we have a two year old son we still do outdoor cooking but not as often as when we dont have a child yet. my son loves eating barbeque too.

We used to barbecue with charcoal but now use gas. The problem with charcoal is it takes so long and you are always fighting with the charcoal. Sometimes it's lit sometimes it''s not extra. I like the taste of charcola better but gas is good also.

My dad and I use coals for all our grilling or BBQ's. I have never used gas to grill before but I have heard that it doesn't have that nice smoky flavour that comes with the use of coals.

I use gas..but I still think that charcoal is more economic and safer to use. I think the taste differs, I like both the taste when cooked on charcoal or gas.

so if you will choose one what would you rather use? grilling with gas or grilling using charcoal? charcoal is economic but i think gas grills faster. maybe thats the reason why they use gas on restaurant for they can grill it faster.
