How long do you keep your receipts?

I bought a necklace the other day and within less than a week it started to tarnish. I was very upset and looked everywhere for my receipt. I am usually so good at keeping them, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Needless to say, I couldn't return the necklace. I always save them and have even been able to return a product as long as a year later. How long do you keep your receipts or do you keep them at all?

I make an effort to save receipts on costly items, but on some smaller items I am not quite so careful

I now have a box where all my receipts go, because like you time and time again in the past when things have gone wrong or faulty I have hunted high and low for the damn receipt and do you think I can find it? I think we all learn the hard way, so now any receipt I keep in my box, some are months old but I hate throwing any of them away, it's sods law isn't it, you throw em away and something goes wrong, you can bet that the receipt you need you just binned! They don't take up much room anyhow and it saves so much time and hassle if they are all in one place, safe and tidy

i use to have this habit of keeping receipts for the longest time like a year an d i find myself doing it every year that it just kept on piling up! so, i decided to just keep the ones that are very important and good til the warranty lasts like let's say a week or a month then i throw them away. i usually keep receipts for warranty purposes and to keep track of my expenses.

I do try to keep receipts for a little while - they all seem to pile up in my handbag! Eventually I will clear them all out and put most in the bin but keep those i think I may need - such as for something big or expensive! Mind you when I try to find a receipt when I need it it is never where I think it is and takes forever to track down! xxx

I used to put them all in one big box. That made it hard to find when I needed something. Now I put them all in a file folder according to the month they were purchased. Since I enter all our spending into Microsoft Money, if I remember the retailer, I can use that to find the date and know what folder to search. Sometimes I remember about what month, so it doesn't take so long to find.

Oh my goodness yes, I keep receipts. I too have had to take things back because they did not work, didn't not work right, or a piece was missing. Sometimes they quit working before the warranty runs out, I then can take it back. I keep receipts for a long time. If it's one for jewelry I bought. I never get rid of it. The same with malor things I buy, stove, washer and dryer, tv, etc. I will get rid of them if the product is old and quit working or I got rid of it. By geting rid of it. I mean give it away or just thrown it away. Anything that plugs in or cost a nice price I keep that receipt. You just never know when you might need it. I have a file box I keep them in.

Normally for a day or two, just in case I need to go back to the store again. If the item is a big purchase which have a warranty period, I will attach the receipt to the warranty card and keep it indefinitely. Indefinitely because I will forget about it until the day I happen to dig it out accidentally. LOL.

to be honest I don't keep receipts. my husband does. did you look in your purse? Why don't you try returing and ask them if they could exchange it for something else. Just let them why, maybe they will let you. If you use a credit card, and the amount show on your statement ask them if that works.

i don't usually keep the receipts unless they're the electricity, phone, cable and all. as for things that i buy, i don't really keep it much as sometimes, even if i want to return something, i can't go as i am just not able to make the time. but i do keep the receipts for the above mentioned for at least a month. then i usually throw them away. but recently, i found one that was actually dated around dec 2006! grins hehe i had thought that i had thrown everything away. but it was wrong. it was a newspaper bill. hehe

I keep most of my receipts if the item is over a certain amount of money, I keep them all in the same we box in my bedroom drawer and if I dont need to use them i'll usually forget about them until I come across them months later when I have a pile up of receipts!! this discussion has just reminded me to clear them out ha ha.

Oh I keep receipts until the ink is gone. I have receipt for at least 2-3 years if not more. I have a folder with all my receipts except my bill receipts that in another folder in another draw. I need to go there tem to make some room for more but I'm afraid if I do throw them away its going to bite me. So I won't do it I'll just have to get another folder and start with that one. But if and when I do go there them the receipt have to be at least 3 years old and I probably don't even have the item or don't no where it is for more to trash it. I even have food receipts from shopping and eating out. I know I need to trash them because that stuff is gone. LOL! I have a hold my receipt problem. LOL

I keep my receipts for a very long time. It all depends on what it is for also. If it is for something major that I won, I will keep them until I no longer have or won the product. If it is something like a grocery receipt, I do not keep those. I throw them away after looking over them when I get home. We have been burglarised three times so I always take pictures of my things or keep the receipts for all merchandise now.

I am not really that organized that most of the time I fail to keep my receipts. But I those important ones in a drawer so that in case they need to be verified, then I can show some proof. The receipts that I make sure I keep in a safe place are the electric bills, internet bills, water etc but when it comes to the receipts I have when I go shopping (clothes, bags etc), I rarely keep them for a long time.

I keep them indefinately. I dont throw away receipts right away. If I purchase clothes, and once I wear them I know I will not return them so I easily destroy the receipts.

Sometimes ,if I buy something which is very expensive, I will keep the receipt for a special place which help me get together the important receipts, other things I will drop the receipt very quickly! I could give you a good suggestion, first, don't so worry about the receipt of necklace, because sometime ,we usually forget the thing we have put on, after several hours or several days,we maybe find the receipt in place which we have forgotten!
