I have noticed my girlfriend most of the time sleeps with slightly opened eyes, about 3 millimeters open, where you can see some of the white in her eyes. I also have other friends who sleeps like this. Sometimes, my girlfriend would also tell me that I sleep like this too, mostly when I am tired. Who among you sleeps with eyes slightly open? Do you think this is normal? An article from the web said this is something of a neurological symptom for facial weakness. source: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/neuro/archive/11403.html

Some people have this habit. During sleep their eyes, instead of being closed, remain in a slightly opened condition. This is nothing abnormal until you feel any problem for it. Such people may develop 'dry eyes' and to prevent it may use any lubricating gel before going to bed.

Haha I don't think I sleep with my eyes open. No one had told me that I sleep like that. I also don't know anyone who sleeps like that lol. The only thing that they mention on how I sleep, is that I grind too much, that they feel like my teeth will be chopped into pieces lol.

And I thought I was crazy when I started to count squares on the ceiling or how many light bulbs in the room. I sleep with my eyes closed and I have never started to examine my husband's eyes. It sounds like both of you suffer from obsessive compulsion. It also looks as if you both had better see a doctor to see if there is anything wrong. In your case, tiredness could be a contributory factor, and it cold be the condition mentioned in that link. So I would say, go get a checkup and find if it is just that you are overtired or whether you are half=awake, like what happens in the Cowboy movies where the hero keeps one eye open for bad guys.

As for me I dont know I am usually asleep and no one that I have slept with has said anything. But about the 3mil thing, did you measure? Now that freaky! That could be a good discussion, do you do anything to others when they are asleep?

I have had people speak to me when I am asleep becuse my slightly open eyes made them think I was awake. This is not always a neurological symptom - a lot of people do it normally. It can cause dry eyes though! I havent had any problems so far

As far as I know, I don't. No one has ever told me I do either. That wouldn't be good especially since my eyes dry out easily.

well i sleep with my eyes slightly open too. some people say it's scary the first time they saw me sleep. my family members just find me weird. i think it's pretty normal as i've been like this since young. my cats sleep with their eyes slightly open too. it might be a neurological symptom if it happens suddnely. but i guess it's just the way i'm made. ;p

I am quite sure I sleep with my eyes fully close (even though I can't see myself when I sleep). Reason is none of my friends/family members who have seen me sleep has commented on this before. I have a cousin who sleeps with eyes slightly open. He sleeps that way all the time. I think this is pretty normal and there's nothing much to worry about.

Hi richiem, I don't have this problem myself, and to be quite honest, this is the first that I've heard of it. The comments on the site suggest that you should see a medical specialist, and I'd suggest you do that, or at least discuss it with your family doctor. Blessings.

I know i don;t sleep with my eyes slightly open because this was the subject of a conversation I had with my brothers and sisters in relation to one sister's sleeping with eyes slightly open. I asked them to check if i did the same and they told me later i did not. However, there are times when I was so tired or had not had a full night's sleep for some days that i sleep with eyes slightly open but this is not often. i guess i do not have facial weakness though

Sometimes I sleep with one eye slightly open. It's quite scary when people see it. When I'm not lying down that's usually how I sleep.

When I was a kid and I stayed overnight at my best friend's house, she would sleep with her eyes about 1/4 or 1/2 open. I would be talking to her, thinking she was awake and she'd start snoring!

Well I have not seen myself sleeping (Joke), but my husband told me I am more beautiful when sleeping. I don't know if I will be happy with that comment or not! And to answer your question, No, according to my hubby my eyes are closed.

It used to be scary to see people sleeping with their eyes slightly opened and seeing their eyeballs moving around. But most of the people i know do sleep with slightly open eyes. I might even be one of them. So I think it's normal.
