How Often Would You Try a Totally New Dish?

I don't cook but my mom cooks every day. Sometimes I heard her complaining about "don't know what to cook". She would try out a new dish like every month and sometimes I admit that it could taste horrible (but I admire her courage to poison me *laughs*). I am wondering how often would you try to cook a completely alien dish?

I've been told I never cook the same dish the same way. That may be because I love to use and try different seasons. My husband loves broiled red snapper. I cook it for him. (I don't like broiled anything excepts shrimp scampi). I am bold when I'm in the kitchen. My daughter is worse than I am. Guess she has it honest.

My husband and I try new dishes all the time. He is thhe best cook in the world, and we both love a lot of ethnic foods. Tonight he made meatloaf, but instead of ketchup, he used Thai spring roll sauce. It's like sweet and sour sauce with spices in it. That was the best meatloaf I've ever had.

As long as it smells ok and looks ok oh and it has to be cooked lol. I will try it. I'm up to new and exciting things. You don't know if you don't try it right?

Hello wondericequeen,
You don't cook and your mom cooks every day and you admire her courage 'to poison you'! *laughs* I think she will be happy when she hears the statement. Well, in my case it is me who need to cook every day. I think it is not only your mom who complains about don't-know-what-to-cook. I, myself always complain too! Sometimes I feel like I cook the same recipes over and over again until I get tired of preparing the same menus. Whenever I have ample time to cook and really want to try something new, I will try to cook something new *smiles*

I have to admit that trying to cook a new dish is quite scary
for me. My boyfriend is a very picky fussy eater as it is.
I have to be careful with the "usual" things that I cook so
when I "experiment" I really get nervous. He has spit out
some of my "experiments before. I much rather try out my
new concoctions on my girlfriends. They are alot more open
to my creations.

I like simple foods better than complicated ones, and have better things to do most of the time than cooking, but sometimes I try something new. I hardly ever run out of ideas, though. I would try many alien dishes in restaurants, but probably not at home, although in truth most people probably would consider some of my favorite foods pretty alien, especially my chocolate flavored wheatgrass juice milkshakes.

I usually stick to cooking things that I know my hubby and daughter will like. I try new things when my husband and sister in law cook. They tend to be more adventuresome. So I get to try something new every other month or so. My sister in law has found some interesting recipes online.

I try new foods a few times a month. I tried red rice a few months ago and found that I love it. Red rice is like brown rice only better tasting.
I actually just ate a red rice sandwich for lunch. I had cooked up enough for several days.
I just reheated 1 cup of rice, threw in some baked crushed garlic, about 5 cloves, then heated the some pita bread and made a sandwich. Yum it was good. I could eat 3 or 4 of them, but that is not good for my diet.
I'm a carbohydrate lover. I could easily eat 1000 calories of carbs in a meal. I won't because I need to loose 10 kilos.
I love to try all kinds of (new to me) grains and foods from the health food store. Some are better than others, but I will keep eating the new food until it's gone to see how I like it. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to a new food.
There are so many things at the store that I haven't tried yet. There are some non-seaweed sushi rappers that I am dieing to try. They are expensive, about twice the price of nori seaweed rappers. so I am waiting for a special occasion to buy them.

I cook something totally new at least once a week. Sometimes I discover that it's something that's really not for me, but I will try something new. I'm always open to new tastes.

Every once in a while I do. That's actually my husband's department when it comes to trying a new dish. If it is something a little different we like to try something with chicken or steak. There are some recipes out there that are pretty good. My husband likes to try new things with shrimp every now and then.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "a completely alien" dish. But, I love trying new recipes that have ingredients in them that I like, with some other ingredients that perhaps I haven't tried. It wouldn't be unusual for me to try a new recipe every couple of weeks or so.
In fact, last evening for dinner, I tried a new Martha Stewart recipe from one of her "Food" magazines. It was called, "Meatloaf with Chili Sauce." Now, of course, I've made meatloaf alot in my life. And, my husband likes one particular recipe of meatloaf. But he liked this one also, just not as well.
It's sort of an adventure to try new recipes. And I think it's fun.
Take care, wondericequeen.

Almost every day is something slightly new in our house, it all just depends what is in the cupboards or what was cheapest at the markets! I can sympathise with your mother. It can get somewhat monotonous cooking the same thing all the time. Unfortunately if I try anything to radically different I am deafened by complaints!

Regularly. Sometimes things don't turn out so well, but I usually make it over and over again for a week or two until it's right. Then, I don't make it again for a few months and have to go through the entire creative process again. I love cooking and like to step out of my box.

I try twice or thrice in a week and then let go for a week to let the others'tummy get ready for the next weeks onslaught.
lol lol
I try whenever i read a new recipe which i think will be nice and if i have the ingredients required at hand.
I love cooking new dishes and improving on them.
