Do you still use diskettes?

At this day and age of advance technology, do you still use yesterday's technology?
Earlier this morning, my co-teacher was cleaning his locker. I noticed that he had several diskettes arranged in a shoe box. I asked him if he was planning to get rid of the diskettes. He told me that he did not have any intentions of discarding them. He said that a lot of important files were stored in those diskettes. I advised him that he could actually keep those files in a USB or a portable hard drive so he wouldn't have to keep all those diskettes.
This kept me wondering... are there still some people here who use diskettes? Or have we all shifted to the use of USBs and other alternatives?

Hehehe, even I found a few diskettes while I was cleaning things at home. We don't have that floopy drive anymore so that we can be able read the files in those diskettes and I did ask anyone at home if they still had important things in them so that I'll just set them aside after labeling them with names and throw away others.
Well, yesterday and today's technology, when it comes to data storage, are still susceptible to viruses. Aside from that, present technology wins by convenience over technology from before.

Yes, I agree with you. Present technology is more convenient than what we used in the past.

Of course, technology back then was convenient during its time.. The problem with convenience would often go along with its durability as well.. Sometimes, when a certain item tends to be too convenient, it might also break 'conveniently'
A distant example would be convenience store. Its too easily accessible, even shop-lifters to hold-up-ers can do what they want to do.. With storage devices, easy access to viruses as well as easily breakable when we accidentally do something wrong with them..

Yeah diskettes are already becoming the thing of the past where 10-15 years ago this things were a very important part of computer supplies in the office. USB has become the replacement for these diskettes. It is much more reliable and easily used plus it does not easily get corrupted like the diskettes of today they easily deteriorate over time. I also noticed that computer manufacturers are slowly phasing out floppy disk drives in their cpu units.

You have to be careful. Computers don't come with diskette drives anymore. You could end up with important files on diskette and no way to get them and magnetic storage media tends to break down with age and they may already be bad.

Well, if I remember it right, the last time I used a diskette was in 2006. I hope that my co-teacher will be able to realize that it would really be more practical for him to use a USB rather than keeping all those diskettes.

Hi dolce,
I have several office mates before who are still using diskettes...They are the one who are just contented of diskettes and not interested to learn about USB thing..LOL!
I stopped using diskettes like 2 years ago! It wasn't that long yet! LOL!
That time, USB are expensive and I don't like to invest! LOL!

Well, since there are more manufacturers and suppliers, USBs now are more affordable. I hope my co-teacher would consider getting one for himself soon.

Hi dolce_vita! haha..Would it be embarrassing if I admit to you now that we still have lots of diskettes in our keeping? haha..However, we have already transferred all the files in the diskettes in DVDs but my husband still have all the diskettes in keeping.
Take care and God Bless!

due to the limited memory of a diskettes i never used it, instead i used cd or dvd for my file storage. for mobile i used flask disk/mobile disk because it is convenient to bring with no big space of your bags needed. diskettes is not advisable to used nowadays. the technology is growing fast to we need to follow of the pace.

USB Flash Disk is a very convenient alternative to Floppy Diskettes. I am using a USB FD to store and transfer files from different computers. That especially when I am in the field and I have to copy some important files. But diskettes remain in the closet, for storage and some installation programs still requires the use of these diskettes. KEEP SMILING = NEIL

You have reminded me the existence of diskettes. It had been ages I did not use a diskette. Anyway,I don't use diskettes anymore in these days. It's troublesome when we need to carry so many diskettes with us. It's inconvenient as the storage is very small. I need to use so many diskettes to store a big file. Argghhh,I think using diskettes in these days is no more practical, lol.

If my old computer was working, I would still be ale to use diskettes. Unfortunately the computer that I got two years ago, doesn't have an A drive. I could probably get an external one for it if I felt like spending the money. For now I am happy with my CDs, and DVD's. If I felt like fixing my old desktop I could use diskettes again, but for now I'm too busy with too much other suf to worry about doing that.

For some, it's basically all about the necessity. Like the clearing system of many countries still uses software application that depends on diskette. for such people they might get used to using diskette even personally. Well, for I don't use diskette anymore....USBs all the way

My goodness!! I cant tell you the ast time i used a disk!! Everything that i do and save are on a USB. Disks are so old school if you ask me. Its just like the transfer from Cassettee tapes to Cd's. Theres always something new and mre improve to come along and take over something else. But i think your advice to your friend was a good one. It will be much more better off putting all those files on a flash drive and destroying the disks. It will save him a lot of space as well.

Hi there! Yes I still use diskettes. Mainly because I'm just to used to it than USBs and the files I store on it are those that I don't have to carry all the time. Its also much cheaper I think lol
