Lately, I have been hearing about so many school bus accidents in the surrounding areas where I live. So, far, thankfully, no children have been killed, but many have been injured and have to be taken to the hospital. I don't understand why they don't make seatbelts manditory on school buses. It's a law to wear one in your car, and if you are caught without one you get fined. So, is it not just as important to keep our children safe?? I've heard its mostly about money, the cost would be great equip school buses with seatbelts, but my opinion is...they raise taxes for everything else under the sun, so why not to pay for this worthy cause. I personally wouldn't mind paying a bit more on my taxes if it means my little ones and the children of other arrive to and from school safely.

yes! absolutely , we should definitely have school buses with seat belts . With all the new technology out there you would think some more money would be put into the safety of our children . I am sure there would be a way to put a safety belt on a bus that would save many lives . So many buses look exactly the same as they did when i was a kid . It is defiantly time to stop worrying about the next ipod or Hdtv and look to matters that would help people .

This is an area I am greatly concerned about as I have a Kindergarden going daughter. Right now time permits me to drop her to school & pick her back. But in coming few months I may have to go for the school bus. The rash & careless manner way in which these school bus drivers drive is a matter of concern. They care a heck about the safety of tiny tots. Always in a hurry. Your suggestion about making seat belts mandatory on school buses is a very good one. Hope that the authorities too are watching this & plan to come up with solid action in this regard.

I agree with you and as a safety method it is a nice concept. But implementing it is very difficult.

Seriously, I am shocked that we get tickets for not wearing seat belts to go down the street, and yet all these kids don't have to be seat-belted in to go all over God's creation?? What's up with that??

Schoolbus must have seat belts and with that the authorities should provide a strict caretaker in the bus who can control childern and not let them get up from the seats.

I think they should. I've never been able to understand why they don't have them on school buses to begin with. The law grinds us so hard to "buckle up" but yet we put out children in a big metal box and send them down the highway with no constraint? It just makes no sense.
But yet the Bus driver has one and has to wear it.
They definitely need to look into it and do something about it.

Yes I do think there should be seats on school busses for one thing its pretty bumpy especially in the back and I don’t know why they don’t put seatbelts on busses today. Since a lot of times they drive in bad weather and I would think more parents would complain about this.

I have not think about it before, I think you are right, it is weird that school bus doesn't have seat belts, actually I have never seen a bus with seat belts, where I live in , I use public transportation and I have to take bus everyday, once I got really hurt when the bus almost crash and it stopped and I hit my head against the seat in front of me, of course there was not a seat belt, I don't now why they didn't put in buses, maybe you are right too about it would be expensive, I think it would worth to do it for the children, if I have kids someday I would be worry about them getting hurt when they are in their way to school, I think If I have time I wold like to take them to the school for myself so I would make sure they arrive well.

Definitely, why should buses be different to any other vehicle ?
Especially with schoolchildren who are usually so unruly.
I imagine it would be must for school buses.

bus passengers are not required to wear seatbelts... for school bus, it should be a transportation for slow travel... i wonder why those buses experienced a sad fate... if it's a slow moving school but it won't be like that..

i think you are right and my son is a little one and mostly next year i will make him join a kindergarten. and i really cant think of this kind of think happening. we hire the school bus for the safety of our childrens and if they face risk going even in school bus then on which travel medium parents have to trust for the safety of their childrens.
oh really what you tell is right if its just a matter of a little money then i dont think any parent would mind and i think this matter should be put front of the school staff so thst they bring this into effect and take precautions for our childrens life.
i completely agree with you.

I always thought school buses should have seat belts on them. They are always talking about "Buckle up for Safety" but our children ride around daily with no seat belt on. What is the reasoning behind that? When I was in elementary school my school bus got into an accident. A couple of people on the bus had to go to the hospital with serious injuries because they were not sitting down when the accident occurred. I know the seats are made to take the impact but seat belts can definitely help out a lot more.

Most school buses do have lap belts or at least that's what I can remember. However, it was never required for the students to wear the belts. The Country finds school buses to be "safe" because of all the safe driving regulations they follow. However, I do believe they should have to wear seat belts and should maybe have one designated person on the bus that does the belt check or maybe even surveilance cameras on the bus. Have you ever seen a surveilance of an inside bus accident? The kids are tossed from one seat to another because the only thing holding them down are their back packs. It also could pose a safety threat incase the children needed to evacuate the busses but if they make easy release latches it shouldn't be a problem.

yes, there should be seat belt on the buses they are not protecting our children lives. this is a good question.here in the usa when school buses have accident most the time the children get hurt which is a shame because they ticket us when we dont wear seat belts and they can and will not protect our children something is wrong with this picture.charge it to tax payer they charge everthing else to us why not something as serious as this what are they waiting for someone to get killed

Yes I do! Seatbelts are on the buses here for preschools. But the minute they hit kindergarten no belts. And it is terribly scary to send her off to school with these accidents all over the news. I'd pay the tax increase for my kids safety.

I agree! I saw a video once with a school bus accident and I asked Richard that very same thing. I know in some school buses there are seat belts in a few of the seats, at least that's what I remember from when I was in school but I think those were mainly for the handicapped kids.
You think with all the taxes that we pay in school taxes, including those who don't even have kids, that there would be enough in their budget to get seatbelts on school buses. I think it should be a requirement and a law...

Buses are designed different then cars therefor the seats are designed different. In a car we depend on the seatbelt to keep us from accelerating through the windshield the idea behind school bus seats it compartmentilization. In a bus the seats are padded and sit upright and are much closer together. so the idea is that if there is an accident the child will stay relatively in place due to the seat in from of them. the national highway traffic safety has said that lap belts would do more harm to the little bodies then this thought of compartmentilization. the buses ride higher then most vehicles which distrbutes the crash and most children do not get hurt unless the buss tips over. in which case personally i think that all children on buses should have seat belts! there are schools in new jersey that are already putting them in the newer buses. Still here in north carolina I havent seen any imporovments on the situation but did hear that it would cost around 670 million dollars to put belts in all buses in the united states.

Yes I do think they need seat belts. Personally I don't know why there arn't any seat belts. If your driving in a car and your child isn't buckled up then you get a ticket. i don't know why they think buses are safer. If it is about money thats stupid. Our children saftey is much more important then any amount of money.

Oh my god, ofcourse there should be seatbelts, why waste lives if you can prevent it?
Pay all cash necassery because a seatbelt costs much less then a childs life...
