I Would Have Been A Witch...

Witches... - Witches...

Way back there was a time that ppl were accused of being witches in Salem, Mass. They were believed to be able to cast evil spells, cause crops to fail and even cause ppl to die all at their whim. Several young girls claimed to be able to see the evilness in the “witches” b/c of this numerous men and women were hung, stoned or drowned. Eventually it came out that the girls saw nothing and simply picked ppl that they didn’t like or that acted differently. Something as simple as picking flowers along the road could label you as witch. Wearing your hair differently or any number of things could get picked. Most of the women labeled as witches were just ordinary women. There was little or no trial…mostly it was all done on the say so of these girls. Had I lived in that time I probably would have been accused as well simply b/c I tend to do things my own way. I also have a bad habit of speaking my mind, which would have landed me in a noose more than likely. Would you have been labeled different and a witch at that time or would you have done everything to blend in? Would you have taken you’re family and fled just in case or stood your ground? How do you think the ppl that put those to death felt when they found out it was all a hoax? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

You and I would be hung together!! LOL Actually, the Salem witch hunt was mostly about young girls who were in trouble and lied, by blaming others for being witches and bewitching them. At least, that's how it all started. Although, I think in that era, I probably, if I had been born a woman, would be more into blending in, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it).

Some of the girls that where considered witches in Massachusetts had seizure like activity and had fits on the floor. It is now believed they ate tainted rye flour and got ill from it. We went to the witch museum in Salem Massachusetts once. It was not what I expected. It is a room with statues near the ceiling and light and stuff on the floor. You sit on benches around the room and heard a story of the Salem witch trials. The floor lights up and the different statues light up at different times when they talk about the different characters. Then they have a gift shop you leave through. I was not impressed.

I probably would've been accused too, because of those reasons AND because I'm a pagan lol. Knowing how things were back then from reading bits of history...I know it would've been pretty foolish most likely to stand your ground unless you're some amazing warrior and that was rare for women back then. ESPECIALLY with those skirts. Hate to say it, but fleeing would probably be the only safe option. Change my name, dye my hair with berries or whatever lol.

BTW, most people who've ever accused people of being witches and killed them never felt anything it seems. Today maybe it's a bit different...but fear and religion ruled pretty much everything back then, especially here in America in the early beginnings.

yeah probably, some churches that know me probably think I am a witch.. That is a very sad time in history, the many mistakes man has made and should learn from...Today they don't burn or hang you, they exclude you socially, that is how they deal with people who are different..

hi twoey68 I also have a habit of speaking my mind so I might have been thought to have witch tendencies too. I probably would have taken my family and got the heck out of there asI would have known theres no such thing as witches, I am not a fighter so I would have fled to a safer region.lol Those people that were witch hunters probably felt stupid when they found out it was all a hoax.

I honestly probably would have been accused of beind a witch back then too. I have a habit of randomly popping up in different places can seethat would probably freak the ppl back then totally out. Not to mention I would were the opposite of anyting and everything they wear. If it was me I would have stood my ground and at least go down with a fight. When everyone finds that it is a hoax I think they'll feel betrayal and hatred toward the leader of the hoax.

Nothing new about those situations. When a person's pride gets to be the focal point in their life, they're liable to do a lot of mean and vicious things. Religion has always sparked debates and the "I am right and you are wrong" syndrome, even as it is today. The "control factor" is a big thing in society, and always has been. My attitued is: "Live the truth to the best of your ability, with God's help. Don't get in a tizzy about all of the hypocrits within the churches - just show them the RIGHT way to live and react to things. And - as much as it is possible within you - - live in peace with all you come in contact with." There are times when you may need to address something, but just do it in a kind way, and if you don't get the response you had hoped for, let it go, and continue to be a good example of kindness and friendliness. 'nuff said

I would have been deemed the Anti-Christ.Why? I don't consider Jesus my personal savior And I go my own way. I think for myself and if I don't see the point of doing something I don't do it.They wouldn't be able to make me conform to their way of life.i always thought a true witch could Never be captured by mere humans. I never thought all those people were witches.

Aren't you glad you live now. Back then women were considered little more than property. I agree with you cause I would have opened my big mouth once too often, LOL! I saw a program several months ago on the History Channel which discussed Witches in Salem. It also deemed that some of the "spells" and such were actually a result of mosquitos which caused encephalitis. I thought the program was very interesting.

Heck, I'm so strange now I think some people think I'm one. Especially when I'm running around in one of my capes.

Pretty sure I wouldn't have stayed in Salem too long after the witch trials started. I've always been good with herbs and natural potions, and that could be construed as witch craft. And I've had a premonition or two in my day. Guess I would have left. Or, started pointing a few fingers of my own.

I would have probably blended in til I hit 40 and decided I was a person too and had a right to speak my opinion, do things MY way, and not bow to any other human being! {sigh} then they would have hanged me for sure! As for the people doing the hanging, I'm sure they justified their actions somehow and started looking around for someone else to blame for the bad things that happened in the community. That's how the religious zealot's mind works.

I never want to live in that era but if i were in a place where anyone of us could be pick as witches i would just fled with my family to a place where i know it is much safer. It is sad though that people before could just cast stone and kill a person base of hearsay. I am glad things have change eventually. But a lot of people who live in the past are narrow minded and not yet that civilized so that perhaps explains why it is easy for them to get fooled by others who will create stories about witches.

I too would have been accused of being a witch, in fact I was as a young child accused of this very thing many times. Because I told people what I thought was going to happen and it did, many times over. It wasn't my fault that I predited what was to happen. I just knew it and told what was to be. I learned to not tell and was not called a witch so much.

I would definitely have been considered a witch. I speak my mind and march to my own drummer and if anyone tries to stop me they'd better get out of my way or get run over! I don't think the people who executed those poor people felt badly. They were such religious zealots that their twisted minds would figure out some way to make their acts godly. The devil loves people like that, he can get them to do his bidding so easily.

Yes i would have been hung since i speak my mind and use herbs instead of Dr.s..i know that i can heal alot of what ails me with them so even though I would have tried to help others i would have been labeled...I'm a lover of the Earth and an old Hippie so almost the same..

I would of been labeled for a witch for several reasons. One my lack of faith in god. Second, i refuse to run my life on the beliefs of others, i want to be who i am not what society wants me to be. Third, is because i have a birth mark, two actually. I did a study when i was in college on the witch trials, and birth marks were considered a sign of evil. I probably would of been killed at birth, especially since one of my birth marks is in the shape of a star.

Hi twoey, Remember in those people were scared of the authorities like the church men and they were very simple people, with mass histeria people were acccusing people of being a with because they were in turn afraid of been accused, in those days I don't think consious because they were too scared. You can't stand your ground as they take no notice of what you say so you would have gone to your desath anyway. What is wrong being a Witch anyway? Tamara

Hi twoey! I'm with you! I would have definitely been labeled as a witch! I have always had fascination about witches and witchcraft. I don't know why, but I always was attracted to the stories and spells and I wished that I could do some of those things that witches were supposed to be able to do. I mean the "real witches". I would probably have been picked out because I also like to do things my way and am outspoken and I'm sure that would have gotten me into lots of trouble way back then. I read alot about those times in Salem, MA and things that happened there. It has always been of great interest to me. In fact, I had some rally cool brooms in my house that I used as decorations and my friends and my boyfriend made me take them down and throw them out! I am still angry that I did!
